Installing a new Leviton 50A surface mount outlet for a range.

Went to a local electrical supply place, got 8/3 W/G NM-B.

Did not realize until today that except for the ground, the other 3 wires are stranded rather than solid.

Is this the norm? Will it work?

The outlet says "wire size range A.W.G. #10-#4".

Stranded is ok however, u got the wrong gauge of wire.

NM-b is limited to 60* c ampacity which is 40a for #8.

If you need NM-b, then you need to use #6...

The new GE range specs say that a 40A breaker is OK, which is what I'm using with the #8.

The outlet itself is a Leviton 50A, but I think that's acceptable?????????

What amperage does the stove call for? If 40A then the #8 is okay even though the outlet is a 50A, you just need to use a 40A breaker.

You answered my question while I was typing.

Ok nevermind then. I thought u were installing a 50a circuit. A 50a recepticle is ok on a 40a circuit. However, the other way around 40a receptacle on a 50a circuit is a no no!
