Was at home depot the other day and spotted a US made Milwaukee Drill which was the display model. Asked the guy if I could buy the display model as the new ones were made in china. He said no.

I was in there today picking up some parts for a plumbing project and told another guy my plight and desire to buy the display model. He went over, opened the box and exchanged the display model for a new model.

Walked out with the Corded 8 am Milwaukee Magnum 1/2 inch for $114.00 with discount. I will try registering the warranty for it. Works fine. I didn't really need the drill, but figured it is getting harder and harder to find a US made drill these days.

The main difference is mine was US made vs China, if that's your cup of tea. Otherwise I would not have bought it for that price.

Not sure which model you bought, but Milwaukee still makes drills here, just have to be picky about where/how you buy/order. My local ag store has no problem ordering anything from the Milwaukee catalog.

So many Milky's are made across the pond that it sours the Milk. I check pawn shops for USA or German made tools. It is harder to locate them.

I walked through HD last night to pick up a couple lighting and plumbing items.

Decided to stroll through the tool area to get to the tool storage aisle indirectly.

I noticed the corded drills all seemed to have a smaller sized connection and I wondered if it was fixed or a disconnectable type.

Why do I wonder? Because my U.S. made Milwaukee 75th Anniversary 1/2 in. Magnum Drill works great and I like the idea of available replacement parts.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't have bought an unneeded tool. But if in the market for one I would have done exactly what you did.

Working as the tool manager at Lowes I would not have sold the display unless I had no new models, or it was non stock and there were no new models coming in.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago, I got a nice little discount because they didn't have the original box or accessories, but the new stock were all chinese. ended up walking out with it for right at 100, iirc.

My father had his since I was around 3. still a beast. needed a replacement cord, but thats easy enough.

milwaukee still makes some of their stuff here, iirc, their sawzall's are all still made here, since thats really what put them on the map.

buffalobill, You are incorrect on the SawZalls. All of the ones Home Depot out here are Made in China. I will keep looking for USA made of USA parts and buy if I can.

maybe the ones sold at home dopes, but the ones at my local ace hardware are all still marked USA. and this is one of the ace hardwares that has the sign out front "we support American Manufacturing, look for the made in the USA sticker" stores. I only commented because I saw this thread today, and was going there anyway, so i took a look at them.

fwiw, my local Ace never has the screaming deals that home dopes seems to have, but for the small difference, they have higher quality tools, a knowledgeable staff, and an excellent selection.

I love Milwaukee, yes most/all their stuff in made in China noe... and unfortunately even the company is Chinese owned now too.

I will be sticking with Dewalt from now on. Yes, they're made in China as well, but at least they're still an American company.

I paid $88 for the same drill at Lowe's a few years ago on a price match against a HD ad. I don't know COO but probably China.
