Do I need a corded or cordless drill or impact?

You will never get a properly torqued lug nut off with an impact driver.
I use my Makita impact driver all the time with lug nuts, but I have passenger cars, not trucks. For trucks use the XWT08.

Since the OP chose Makita, next purchase should be the XPH07 drill. Yes, it's big and heavy, but it'll do anything you need it to.
