Do I Need A Vent?

I have a detached garage, about 13X17' (see my avi.) There is no drop ceiling and no insulation in it. My main use for it is a home gym. I plan to eventually set up an AC and an electric heater.

Should the garage have venting?

I noticed there is a hole in one corner, where the roof meets the wall. It's maybe 4X8". It doesn't look like this was intentionally done. Could this work as a vent, or should I plug it up? If this would be a good place for a vent, would I also benefit from using a fan with it?

if i was mine. i would insulate the walls and put in a ceiling then vent the attic. if its not insulated them you are kinda spinning your wheels as to trying to keep it cool or warm.

Yeah, I guess that would be the best route. I think this might be a future project. Although I might put a celing where there's beams (not sure what they are called) going across the garage, about 5 feet from peak of the roof.

So, don't even bother with an AC if there's no insulation? So far, I've been doing OK with a pedistal fan.

are you only gonna use the ac when you are out there? and how often will you be out there?

if you leave the unit on all the time then i would think of it like a small house, more insulation the less time it will run to keep the space at a desired temp.

also to save space in the attic you could put a small package unit on the back and just have the duct run into the wall that way you don't have a bunch of duct-work up in the attic that decreases your storage options.

I would use it maybe 1 - 1.5 hours a day. My pan would be to turn on the AC maybe an hour before I was going to use it to cool it off a bit, and turn it off when I'm finished.
