These are 16 inch LVLs that make up my roof rafters. 24” on center. Each blocking has two 3” inch holes in it for ventilation below the roof deck and above the 14” planned insulation. It’s only a 1:12 slope so I’m a little worried about getting adequate airflow.
Each bay is served by hardie soffit. I’ve done the math and the double 3” holes have greater area than the related length of soffit vent.
I’d still like to open up the area between the two holes. Less resistance to airflow would be better. This blocking is at every bay in the 25’x25’ structure.
Everything I can find says blocking should be full height and in full contact with the deck above. The reasoning is over my head.
What do guys think? It would be a simple matter to sawzall the middle section out. It is not connected to the deck.
Thanks
