I mean its always good to have just in case you never know i mean if something comes up and you need to get to the other side of the floor its always good to be prepared. 40 bucks could end up saving you a few hundred know what i mean?

Fair enough, I suppose if I need to use a smaller roller against the walls I would need to be able to step in it.

Even without flakes, you will roll it out one way, then want to go back and roll it again perpendicular to that. If you have a pair of throwaway shoes, that could work as long as you have a final escape route with some cardboard to take your shoes off on.

Spike shoes are pretty much a requirement if you're using flakes, and just shy of a requirement if you're not using flakes.

They allow you a lot longer time to get on the still wet coating and correct any errors you see, and there are often little spots you miss and just can't see until you step off the floor and stand back a bit.

And as Ruddy mentioned it's a good idea to roll out the coatings in two directions perpendicular to each other, that's especially the case when you're putting down a clear coat. Yes, you could use street shoes, but they displace a lot of wet material and clear coats are generally pretty thin - often 4 mils or less - so as they cure a big foot print will leave a thinly coated spot, or worse a permanent visible imprint.

So if you have a small area with easy access and good fortune, no spikes needed - for the rest of you - use those spikes.

And even if you do wear spikes a cardboard "landing zone" is a good idea, unless you like the look of little epoxy dots on your driveway.

Epoxy coat requires you to back roll the product twice. In different directions is suggested. Yes...you need the shoes. Go on ebay to the fella mentioned by banker. $20 for high quality spike shoes is cheap. When applying the clear over the base color I think its good practic to use the spikes. Not a pro by no means but dnabors is spam. He got kicked off a week ago and created a new sign on. Good luck!

Very easy and cheap to make your own with some nails, 1x4 pine and some duct tape or something. I actually used peg board double hooks that I got for $3.75, turned upside down and electrical taped them to the bottom of my boots. Three on each foot. Extremely rudimentary but very cheap and effective. I would label some type of spiked shoe a must-have for any floor epoxy job - you just don't want to be walking around on that stuff with regular shoes when it's wet.

Spike shoes are a necessity. I can't imagine how anyone would go about doing this without them. In mind mind I can picture someone stepping in this stuff with street shoes and the shoe just stays in place on the floor. :)
