My minisplit was attacked by a falling thing, which damaged the lineset cover, and resulted in this kink in the bigger line. It continues to work, so I don't think it's leaking. Do I need to get it evacuated and replace the line? or is just replacing the insulation (with what?) and ignoring it okay?

Not good, needs to be replaced. A good hvac mechanic could **** out the freon, cut & patch the damage$ section, and refill.

Yes, that needs to be replaced. It will create a failure point in the future. It’s best to fix it before a bigger problem comes along.

Fix it proactively otherwise you will be paying for a full charge of freon along with the rest of the mentioned steps above.

Electric tape has the wrong kind of adhesive for ******* tape FYI

Restrictions like that will indicate your under charge, which means charging unit only be guess. Freon coming back to compressor is what cools compressor. Tubing cutters and coupling fix that, but still time consuming
