Do I really need to prep the concrete before putting down RaceDeck tiles?

So, my dad recently installed the GarageTrac flooring in his garage and he gave me all of his extra tiles. I've been eyeing tiles for a looong time, and getting this little bump is what's finally pushing me to make the move. I ordered a few samples from the RaceDeck folks earlier this week. Once I confirm colors - then i am ready to order.

I have a 1-car garage and a separate 2-car. The 1-car is my workshop...so no cars in there. I do woodworking - so no crazy chemicals, etc. I live in NC - so we don't get a deep freeze. Since there is really no source of water in this garage - do I need to prep the concrete before laying these tiles?

The 2-car may be a different story - when the time comes to do that garage I will probably do something like the freeflow and it would be nice to have something protect the concrete a bit under the tiles when we drive wet cars in the garage.

What do you all think - prep the 1-car or just start laying tiles?

Thanks!

A good penetrating sealer is not expensive and easy to apply. That said, if your one car garage is not going to see any liquids and it's old enough to demonstrate that it has never had an issue with efflorescence or other ground water issues, then it really isn't a big deal to leave the concrete as is. It would be a good idea to treat the 2-car garage, however.

A product like TrueLock B4 is sold for exactly this purpose. If the floor has no sealer on it, it is a good idea to protect it. TL39 works great too. Whatever you use, try and use a non film-forming product.

I used silax-seal applied from a garden sprayer under my free flow RD floor. Very nice product. I had water beading in an hour. I purchased 5 gallons for my 25x30 3 bay garage and used about half.
