Do old oxy-acetylene regulators have any value to keep or sell?

I inherited three oxy-acetylene regulator sets. One is a complete set with hoses and a torch that was used until recently, so I know it works.

But I also got two other regulator/gauge sets with no hoses, and one old torch, that had been gathering dust in an old farm shop. They look old and dusty and the gauges are crazed and faded. Are they still usable. Can they be refurbed? Do they have value? How much? If they're not worth much I'd be happy to give them away to avoid just tossing them, but if I could get some cash for them, that'd be good too. One set is a Forney.

One problem with advertising them for sale is that I don't know about their background..., i.e. if there is anything wrong with them. I don't have tanks to try or demonstrate them on. Will people buy them knowing they can refurb them if they're not in current working order?

I could post pics if that would help.

I am not a pro welder. If you investigate the cost of having a shop refurbish those gauges for use, I think you'll find the cost won't justify the expense. Personally, the liability of selling something like that, which could go, 'boom,' in-use, doesn't justify the $ received. Scrap 'em.

It’s$50 to get a set rebuilt just like new. I can’t remember the name but it’s some shop in Oklahoma City if memory serves.

Yes they can have value. I took mine in to get rebuilt locally, and the guy ooh'd and awe'd over them. I had no idea.. got them used years ago. Don't know what models or how old they need to be, but as with everything at some point they regulators started to be get cheap.

dunno about the regulators, but I bet if you have some really old goggles, those steam punk people would flock to it.

All depends on what brand and make they are. Some can be rebuilt fairly cheap others are quite pricey. I had an old set rebuilt a few years back I want to say they were craftsman brand but made by victor or harris but were a dual diaphragm design if memory serves right. Any how spent about 75% of the cost of new to have them rebuilt just because I do like the old stuff but the oxy reg. blew again about a year later so I tossed them and bought a new set of victor regulators.

The working set will likely be worth $75 to $150, depending on brand and how good they look.

The rest of them, put them on craigslist or facebook as "inherited, don't know anything about them" for $25, and someone will gamble on them.

Locally it's around $75 to $100 to rebuild. On good brands it's worth it as what they are importing now isn't very even. But old regulators all need a check over/rebuild. They age out.

If they are good quality ones then yes they are worth rebuilding.
If they are low end stuff then no

They're worth their weight in scrap. Anything that's sitting for years I would assume has failed or may fail soon. Since I've been using gauges over the last 35 years I've had four regulators fail. That's an average of 1 failure every 9 years. do you feel lucky?

I would scrap them unless they’re high quality dual stage regs from a quality manufacturer. Those would be worth rebuilding.

Good quality new ones aren’t expensive and the risk of a problem using cheap or old regulators just isn’t worth it.

Either way I wouldn’t use any old unknown regulators as found. Have them checked out by your LWS.

Don't ask.

I see the phrase "steam punk" used in quite a few ads. I've only seen a few pictures on the internet, never seen one in real life. Are there really enough steam punks to create a flock?
