Do PLA 3D Printed Plastics Corrode Steel?

I'm thinking about getting a 3D printer to make a bunch of small pieces to hold collectible ratchets & other tools. There is very little said about whether PLA plastics break down in their lactic acid base and/or can corrode tools.

Anyone have any experience with using 3D printed objects to store tools and if so have you noticed any corrosion/breakdown associated with using a plastic like PLA to hold tools? I'd consider ABS plastic but all I hear is about how difficult it is to get good prints out of it.

I have a 3D printer and print a lot with PLA. I'm not 100% positive about it corroding tools but there has been millions of PLA tool holds made and no one is complaining about tool corrosion. Also PLA is the recommended filament for printing food safe kitchen utensils so I doubt it breaks down and releases any acids.
