I have the set of 1/4in extensions from about 1985 that have the grip type thing, they are real nice. Do the new extensions have that?

yes they do have the knurling
I have a set of the Snap on quarter drive extensions
I think the best quarter drive extensions are the mac extensions, they have knurling in two spots vs one and the knurling is very aggressive which helps when finger tightening bolts

The knurling is the best thing on the extensions I just wonder why the longer ones dont have it

Just bought a set of 1/4" extensions last week off the truck. Up to 11" with knurling.

It's the opposite for me the small ones don't have knurling and the long ones do.

If you love knurling, check out Koken, too. They put it higher but it works great.
