Do these boxes use a connector or just straight in ? The piece where the wire goes in breaks opens and doesn't hold the wire. The whole piece comes off.

Thanks.

I can't tell on that box, but some of the "blue" boxes are designed so that when you break off only one side of the tab, it hinges. If you try to pull the NM out it swings down and grabs.

These only have a thin piece of plastic holding each side it doesn't look like either side would stay.

No connector required, but you must staple the wire within 6 inches of the box.

But it will if you punch it on one end or the other. Listen to wizard.

Those boxes do not have cable clamps built in like cut-in boxes or 2 -gang & larger NM nail-on boxes, as long as the cable(s) are secured w/in 6" of the box no connector/clamp is needed. See NEC 2008 314.17(C) exception.

I punched only one side of the wire opening and put the wire in and here's where I stapled it. I did all the drilling with my 19.2 volt Sears drill and a 4" spade bit with the threaded tip. The drill barely fit between the studs with the short bit. I also got a longer 6" speedbor bit for under the windows for the tripple studs and in the corners. I'm going to put the wire protector plates on the studs.

Hers where I stapled the wire.

When I use these I make sure to leave an inch of sheath on the wires, w/a little bit peeled back. Just enough so as not allow it to pull through. This, w/proper stapling seems safe enough.

Electricians around here staple the cable per code but leave some slack between it (the staple) and the box. Once the drywall is up they pull the cable all of the way into the box. This ensures that the wire that actually remains in the box is free from router/zip tool nicks and cuts.
