Do they Make a 1 1/2" Extention ring for wall recepticals?

I ran into a problem.... Everything got wired in my Pole barn garage before we knew how the walls were going to be finished....

Long story short.. We never accounted for the horizontal 2x4 purlins on the interior side to attach the metal sheets. So after I Install the 2x4s my Boxes are going to sit 1 1/2" to far in. Do they have extension rings that are 1 1/2"? or how can you get around this with out rewiring?


There is enough wire in the box to make the additional 1 1/2 out but... if I move the box out the sheathing wont be inside the box at all like it should be.

I got two "mud rings" for when you do tile...

Shaved off the outsides and just used two of the 1/2" boxes as spacers. I doubt it's code, but it worked perfect for me.

Carlon has a 1.25" plastic extension ring: http://www.tnb.com/ps/fulltilt/index.cgi?part=B1EXTB Other companies may have bigger ones, or maybe you can move the boxes in the extra quarter inch.

I used surface mount boxes. Drill a 1" hole in tin or finish material for the "clamp thingy".

i would just use plastic goof rings and 6/32x2" screws
