Do they make spiral extractors for left hand (reverse) threaded bolts???

Yes, I know I can use a normal drill bit, or tap and use right hand bolt, or weld to it.

I'm just simply curious if THEY MAKE THE SPIRAL EXTRACTORS?

I know the wedge type pictured will do them, but wedge doesn't always work on all materials. I like spiral for Grade 8 etc.

I've googled and kits that say "Left Hand extractors" so far mean they come with left hand drill bits, but the extractors are for right handed bolts.

I saw this thread as well, but no leads. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=244408

I've never seen a spiral extractor for left hand threaded bolts. Try drilling a hole and using a regular right hand thread tap to cut some threads. The tap will act like an extractor and probably take the left hand thread bolt out. If it does not come out, then thread a bolt in and tighten it. That will remove the left hand thread bolt.

Yea, those work good on pipes and tubes. Not so much on Grade 8, thus why I asked about spiral ones.
Why not on grade 8? Not sure what grade they were but I just used the ridged extractor kit on a bolt that broke off in a motorcycle wheel. It chewed up a few drill bits prior to picking up a good cobalt bit but once I got the proper hole drilled and tapped it down the bolt come right out.

sleepy, when the snafu'd piece is very short it's difficult to use a wedge/pipe because thy get little bite. Think of blind hole with short bolt/stud broke off. That's when a spiral wins.

ricleh, I've always managed to get the piece out, but good call on the modified tap.

But once again, just curious if they make spiral reverse extractors.

Only a guess on my part, but with the very few left hand threaded bolts there are, plus for those rare occasions an extractor is needed, many will make do with regular bit & bolt, these sets wouldn't sell.

A manufacturer that would make these sets would have to stock whatever they make; I doubt distributors or retailers would care to stock something that would just sit.

I have been looking at this technology for left hand thread socket head bolts.

I've never seen the spiral extractors for LH bolts either but I don't see why the straight fluted ones won't work on grade 8. Grade 8 ain't that hard, I've use RH extractors on grade 8 bolts fine. The extractors are tool steel & should be much harder than grade 8 hardware, if they are decent ones.

I can't find a photo now, but I've had the best success rate on small bolts with the "spline" type extractors, the ones where you drill a hole into the bolt, hammer in this splined shaft (it's straight, so it'll work for left or right threads) and then you slide on a nut that fits the splines on the shaft. Can't remember what that type is called now, but I've had good success with them on smaller bolts.

Haven't seen these, nope.

But I also don't know why you'd want them. I don't think I've ever seen the regular spiral kind actually work, unless the fastener was already loose. Most of the time they just make things far, far worse. Not sure why you'd want a set of even more useless "extractors".

IMHO the spiral ones get a bad rep because of all the cheaply made ones. Most everyone buys the cheap ones. A good one spiral flute extractor should in theory work better than a staight flute extractor. A tapered spiral flute extractor should dig into the broken bolt/fastener tighter the more it's turned if there is friction to back it up.
