Do you buy filler tools?

filler you mean bondo? how do you build tools out of bondo?


me yes to fill in missing places to complete things as i need or find them on sale. but i don't buy a tool just to buy a tool unless im having a bad day and find a great deal, which makes my day nicer.

for example
i was in sears a couple days ago, ive been needing some longer 1/2" drive extenstions. found a 6" usa(8" was china, didn't want but would have bought one if usa) so i bought that, but not the 15" one that i can't see myself using right now.

also bought a 1" 3/8" drive 6 point socket, as ive needed one soemetimes but i do i have it in half impact. sometimes the impact socket is too big. then i found a 3/8" drive 6 point 5/8" socket that i wanted to replace my spark plug socket in my road toolbox with. its nice not having that rubber inside the socket at times.

That is a really smart idea for both tool control and to also remind you that it is worth the effort to go searching because you have that socket somewhere. Please tell me that I am not the only one who's purchased something more than once only to find out we already one but had forgotten. I hope not

Haha, I can't remember ever doing that right off hand, but 60% of the tools that I now own are a result of someone else who did do that eventually getting tired of the clutter and selling the good quality extras to me at rock bottom prices. Another way of saying it is that I am a lifetime supporter of others purchasing tools that way

I don't have that much compared to many on this site in the way of sockets. My setup is a basic but pretty complete home socket set in a tool chest and fairly complete road sets (in cases) in each drive size for jobs away from home, car trouble, etc. That is it. If there is a marker in my home set telling me I have a particular socket elsewhere I know that just means it is in my portable socket set.

The wrenches and sockets I don't have an immediate need for I just pick up at garage sales if I come across them. I don't care about individual socket or wrench brands matching so that helps a lot. I seem to always eventually need the off sizes for something, so their purchase is always justified in time.

It is a nice feeling to randomly find a good quality 25c socket at a garage sale and to bring it home and realize that it replaces one of my PVC placeholders, so I think the drive to fill in sets is in everyone to some extent.

got one of these cheap electric multi tools to try out but i dont usually just buy something just because. there pretty handy so when it dies i will probably get a better one but for $15 i figured for working on the house and what not it would be useful

I've actually done that on occasion. Now if I need something, I try to write it down. When I only go by memory is when I tend to screw up.

I do, and sometimes I find enough "filler" tools to build a set that I will keep in a car, truck, shed, shop or garage. I usually only do this with used, but sometimes I will find some being clearanced and pick up a bunch that becomes a set. I ended up with a set of 1/4" deep Kobalt sockets about a year ago that way.
