paint that is

I did it on a very small scale once with semi gloss black rustoeum.

Im told that some very big items get dipped the same way in factories
ie heavy equipment,machinery etc.
Some even charge the paint and object electrically to put the paint everywhere
its needed.

I know that fenders for Ford Model A's were dipped, then baked. There is a pretty complex connection between paint viscosity, drying time, heat, humidity, and air circulation. Too runny, and you don't get enough thickness on high spots and runs/sags as you get lower. Too thick and it doesn't want to flow out and causes sags. Similar problems with the other factors.

In modern times, air quality (vapors) will be an issue.

Made some leading paddles out of maple, and dipped them in marine varnish. Turned out really well. Took a while for the finish to set up, but when cured, it looked like ten coats had been applied.

Cannot find mine, but they were much like those pictured.

I read somewhere, a guy was floating Rustoleum in water and dipping suspension parts. I think OEM's use to do this way back, maybe 40's, 50's.

25 years ago I worked as a welder making farming machinery, apart from the main frame that was too large, everything was dipped.

I had to google this, apparently spray painting on water has been around a long time. Check out the youtube videos on it, looks interesting.

I was in a bar-joist manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia in the late 1990's that had a 100' long x 8' deep oil-based paint dip tank... two bays over from where they were welding the joists... a bad idea that did not end well.

Entire vehicle bodies are dipped into the ELPO tank, via conveyor. Life gets interesting if they float off.....;)

I think every vehicle manufacturer is doing this in their paint shop.

perhaps I should clarify
5 gal bucket filled almost full with water
paint floating on top.
Lower object to be coated slowly thru the paint
then pull out leaving object completely coated.
Hydro dipping is similar.

i know a person who was paid to clean paint from a factory floor with a digger, and found a truck body in the paint, it was a large factory painting steel crane parts so i guess it was dipped and forgotten about. the paint was several feet deep
