Do you find 30" Deep Cabs too DEEP

I've yet to own a 30" Deep Cabinet

But in my experience with Deep Shelving, etc - 30" may seem *nice* in the head but in reality, things just get lost in the back and or doing a full pullout of the shelf to get to what's in the back in not as *useful* with the increased 10" arm length.

Just planning toolbox shopping..

They are great, irreplaceable storage. But where I work we move our boxes from one bay to another and there have been plenty of times where 30" would have been a few inches to wide. So I'm very happy with my 25" depth

I'm specifically looking for a 30" deep box. Over a 24" depth, you're adding ~25% more storage. That's a huge amount, especially given that prices aren't typically that much more. Sure the drawers are going to feel like a mile deep when you're pulling them open, and some things might get lost in the back. I think the pros are going to far outweigh the cons, but that's just my opinion.

Just make sure you have enough front clearance to open the drawers all the way.

In a word, NO!!!!!!!! But my box never moves. 30" drawers are GREAT!!!!

I love them! It's frequently the difference between keeping like tools in one drawer and splitting them across drawers because I've run out of room. The narrow bank of drawers are much more useful because of this. I'm able to put two wrench racks end to end from front to back. The extra space on the full length drawers is great. The 24" ratchets and 1/2" driver torque wrenches fit front to back (I think usable space is around 27"). I can fit 2 pliers racks in one drawer and still have a little space in between them for those pliers/clamps that are best stored flat. The bottom drawers is where I keep misc kit tools and supplies and I can't have enough room there.

There are probably 2 drawers that I don't open all the way, and I frequently forget something is back there. I use that space for stuff that I don't need, just because I have extra space. But that's a function of what I put back there and not the extra drawer depth.

Generally I try to place the frequently accessed stuff at the front of the drawers and the less frequently used stuff at the back for obvious reasons.

Going from a shallow small box to a KRL1022 with deep drawers, I would NEVER go back.

For a toolbox 30" is great. 24" and 18" just makes you split up like tools and then have to open drawers looking for what you need.

30" is perfect for the bottom, up to chest height really. Beyond that, I like a shallow top box to give me that nice lil "ledge" out front to set drinks/parts/tools on in a pinch.

excellent points on *single point* of draw so there is no breakup from a organization standpoint. I guess it has it's pros/cons...

I went from 21" to 24" and now to a 30" deep toolbox. I'll never go back to a shallow box as long as I have the room to open the drawers all the way. I liken it to a king size bed. once you own one, nothing else will do!

I never have a problem with the depth of my KRL. However, there is not a day that goes by where i dont wish that i had gone for the 1023 over my 7023. the extra 4 inches would do wonders for my back lol

I've got at least one set of every depth and most widths up to 48" and each has it's place and best use.

The guy who has to do all his work out of one box is the one with the problem. The monster wide/deep boxes quickly get too heavy to move on a regular basis. The smaller boxes quickly run out of space.

FWIW, the worst space hogs are plastic blow-molded boxes for sets. Keeping those doubles the space required.

That's not so much of a depth issue as it is a hoggin' up cubic inches of storage issue, but I agree, and there's some stuff that really just makes sense to keep those cases. I also have noticed over the years the molded organizer trays that sets of tools come in have grown. Sets that used to come nested tightly in a tray now are spread out more with a lot more dead space. I've been adding more racks as I go and keeping the supplied trays less.

Now as for the 30" depth, I do find I have a couple of drawers that the back 8 or even 12 inches are full of stuff I only use about once a year and rarely pull the drawer out far enough to even see it in there. But if those tools didn't get stored there and I had a box that was only 20" to 24" deep, then I'd have to go wider or taller to get more drawers anyway.

I use the back of the drawers to store tools that aren't used that much. It's a long ways to the back of those 27 inch deep drawers.

I can easily see it now. On my Plumbing Drawer.....all those $ pipe threaders can hang out there.

I can't recall the last time I needed to thread pipe. It does have it's purpose when running black pipe..
