I would like to see how you guy's incorporated an office into your shop, and the different uses you use this office for. I'm in the build and plan as I go stage on my shop and I'm thinking a small office would be nice. A place I can go where there's no dust,a place for maybe a computer,my drafting board,TV,**** collection :lol_hitti,maybe even a small work bench area to work on the small delicate projects. I'm not even sure you would call this an office, what would you call it? Anyways lets see some pictures of your office (whatever you call it) and how you use it. Please include the size of your shop and how big or small your office is. My pole barn is 40x84, 40x32 of it is cold storage and 40x48 I'm finishing off as a heated shop. The finished shop area has a 20x12 store room (my wife calls it my garage pantry) within that 40x48 space, so my work area is L shaped. I don't know how large the office will be yet until I see some of your offices and ideas. You don't have to have an office to participate here, you office design idea's will be appreciated !
Thanks !!

Funny thing is, my shop is kind of divided in 2 with a partial wall. My family refers to the back section where I have my workbench and stool etc (which also has a man door) as my 'office'. This gets reinforced when I set up my laptop or iPAD and crank up the tunes.

In my ultimate garage there will be a proper office....get me out of the kitchen for working, reading and scheming on how to get more tools & equipment!

I think that it was a necessity for me. A place to talk on the phone, Work on the computer, store shop manuals, and meet with people on occasion.

Mine isn't very big, but still tends to get cluttered quite easily. 10' X 10'. Here's the layout, be it right or wrong......

And what it looks like......

Just inside the walk-in door, with windows facing the house, driveway, and one looking into the shop.

If you look at my build you will see that in a 36x48 I have three areas. The main shop area, the machine shop or clean work area, and the wifes room up stairs. The up stairs could be an office. I have room in the house for an office that is just steps from the shop.

My "office" is tiny. Mostly it's a couple of book racks and a place to use a lap top.

My main shop is 42x60x16. I put a 24x24x13 addition on the front side. About half is parking bay with a 12' wide door. the other half has a man door that when you walk in you walk past the bath room door and straight ahead is the office door. I built the office with a 2x4x.250 roof cover with 3x4 plywood. I use the are for seasonal storage of ATV's, motorcycles, and sleds. No stairs and no junk. I keep my belly mower and 3pt cement mixer up there as they are new and seldom used and I don't want them outside and needing work if I want to use or sell them.

I have internet, now satelite TV, sirius radio, fridge, leather futon. I practically live in there(here ;-)) and don't know how I did it before. Guns, fishing rods, deer heads, memorabilia, *******, Turkey tails, hunting trophies, you name it. If I like it it is OK. It is even the only place on our property with AC much to momma's despair. AC is not ussually a big issue here and we do camp alot in the summer but seemed like a good idea at the time.

I also would not be without the bathroom out there now that I have had one. The water heater and also pressure washer are on top the bathroom in a tray plumbed to the drain.

Can't seem to find any pics right now.

My workbench serves as my desk...laptop, monitor/keyboard/mouse for computer repairs, lock pin kit and tools, bunch of small screwdrivers etc.

I've always dreamed about having an office (or clean room) on the second floor that would allow viewing out over the shop floor below. Luckily, I was able to work one into the Asylum. It's not huge at 9x12', so I added some built in features to utilize the space a bit better.

View from the shop:

Interior views of the finished office:

Recess under the bay window is for my knees when I'm sitting there on a stool. Radio/speakers are wall mounted. Recessed flat and roll files utilize the wasted space over the stairway. Recess in wall to the left of the bay window is for a future scale model display.

Custom built drawing board mount allows it to move anywhere between flat against the wall to down horizontal.

These pics are old but the footprint is the same. Office with kitchenette/coffee hutch downstairs with public bathroom/utility/laundry room, upstairs apartment, bathroom/shower. My floorplan is great, very natural erogonmic flow.

I use my "shop" (kind of a stretch in my case) as a way to forget the "office," so no. An office would be the last thing I'd want in a non-revenue generating home shop.

I lease a 40x60 commercial space...it has a retail looking sort of front and 21x12 office when you first walk in. You have to walk through the office to get in/out of the shop, which is a bit of a problem tracking shop dirt through. I love having an office though, still empty but I'm gonna get a big fancy desk and computer set up in there.

I have a 10' x 20' office inside my shop, main difference is I have it raised 4' above the concrete floor. This gives me a floor level storage area accessable from 1 side and 1 end so I can store tools and equipment easily underneath on trolleys. Much easier than trying to lift equipment up onto the roof of the office.
