Yes, this and not dropping them or banging them around, and winding them down when you're done ,keeps them accurate.

Some are kept in their cases, the ones that I bought without a case have dedicated drawer or shelf space. I am very protective when it comes to precision tools. Most of My tools remain in a climate controlled shop. Those being transported remain in a climate controlled vehicle. They are zeroed out after use, and I learned years ago to not loan my good ones out.

No, they lie alongside the other ratchets and breaker bars. They are all over the shop all the time; no sense going overboard when they are in the relative safety of a drawer.

Uh-huh! I knew that I'd find it somewhere. This is how the Germans store their torque wrenches. Very efficient and no drama. Mind you their digital version cost several times more than SO TechAngle.

I think that would be a bit like saying all Americans store them a certain way. I suspect there are Germans who keep them in cases and/or in drawers, too. I can't see the hooks in that picture very clearly, but it doesn't look all that secure to me.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I'm thinking about just giving them space in the drawer without their cases since I don't throw my tools around or in my toolbox drawers. The reality is they are out of their cases when they being used, which is really where they are subseptible to getting damaged, or knocked out of calibration.

For reference most machinists or toolmakers/diemakers/mold makers keep their main 0-1" mic in their apron chest pocket, their other mics are most likely in their Kennedy or Gerstner tool boxes resting on felt lining. I think the cases are for transporting to a job or shipping, by keeping them more readily accessible they are more likely to be used, just don't keep them in your hammer drawer.

My big one lays across the handle on my toolbox, small ones in drawers and when my 1" mic is in my apron it is still in that **** plastic case I bought it in. :)... along with a scribe, a small rule... punch... and a smart phone.

I keep mine in the Case and set to zero every time. mine are Matco click type and Ive owned them over 10 years they have never needed adjustment when tested. I Am a diesel mechanic and used them daily till about a year ago. I never used them in reverse.

Oh come on! Of course not all Germans keep them hanging! Do I really need to explain? :lol_hitti

My point was, this is how one high quality German tool manufacturer with torque wrenches costing an absolute arm and a leg, markets their storage and transportation (seeing that the toolbox is on castors). If it's not a big deal for them, it must be okay for us too? :pimpflash

Thank you.

Out in the drawer they stay then. Don't see how they can get damaged unless you roll them or trash together with other tools. If you don't do any of that, I can't see how they can get out of calibration. Especially the SO ones. With lifetime warranty. :rocker:

Cases are the right place for high precision tools like torque wrenches - but for easy access I hang mine inside the tool cabinet - 3 x Stahlwille, 1 US clicker 250 ft lb.

When I was working on motorcycles for a living I kept the most common hand tools laid out on top of my tool box and one of my 3/8" drive torque wrenches was included. I sent torque wrenches out for calibration every six months. Now they live in their cases and get calibrated more or less annually.

All mine stay in the case and in the drawer unless I'm using them, then it's in the case or in my hand. I won't set one down anywhere else. I sure can't have them laying on the ground or rolling around in a drawer.

My wife wishes I had treated our babies with such care.

Lol I feel you man! My ocd is pretty bad over the tools more than other things.
