I've always wanted one of those killer IR Hammerhead air tools. I came across these two ads on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141031888100?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141030749999?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

They are both exactly the same ad just ending at different times. The seller claims to have 12 of them.

The user name is "fakrs" and it looks like he only has feedback for purchases, not sales. The starting bids are $90 and $100 and no one has bid at all.

Is this a suckers bet?

Starting bids are always relatively low. The only way it stays that way is if the item is something hardly anyone wants. Watch the winning bid price soar in the last 5 seconds of the auction. But I am not sure what you are uneasy about, it is just an opening bid.

i don't think you need to worry about his user name, sound like "faker", it's been in use for several years.

however to your questions about selling history, ya it seems sort of strange that he only has 1 feedback from 1 sale and now has multiple items listed, many of them are duplicates.

however, maybe he just scooped a bunch of tools off someone or they fell off the back of the truck, who knows,

or maybe someone hacked his ebay account which is what you are asking, maybe, but if that were the case, i'd be thinking there would be many more items being listed, this seems consistent, i.e. tools so it's probably legit

at the end of the day, who cares, you are covered by paypal/ebay, the worst that could happen is you make a claim and are out your money for a couple of weeks

but most likely, as jim mentioned, you won't win this at a low price, someone will snipe it in the last 10 seconds

The first ad ended with NO bids. The second ad has 3 more days and has 1 bid. I think others are as suspicious of this as I am.

I wouldn't be suspicious. If you're an honest person, and you seriously discover that there's an issue, eBay will resolve your problem.

If you look, he has multiple other auctions going on. If someone seriously wanted to defraud you, the last thing they'd do is call themselves "fakrs."

I think you'll be alright. As others have said, Ebay does a good job protecting buyers (and screwing sellers if the buyer feels entitled). Keep an eye on it and bid high at the last minute. I think that's probably not moving too fast, seeing as it's more of a specialty tool, so you might be able to get it cheap.

The ad also has no real info in the description (Part #), so it won't be high on the list for people searching.

I picked up a set of new 3/4" drive IR deep impact sockets for about $60 the other day, and the seller had plenty more for sale, but had the picture for the 1" drive sockets up. I saw bids going for $80 for the same set with the correct picture from other sellers, but I think people were weary that they wouldn't get the right set (all I did was double check the part number).

There are plenty of good deals out there still, and looks like you might have stumbled into one. Just don't ask where he got 12 of them...;)
