I would only tip if he was going far out of his way to deliver it.

Just wondering, I've never ordered anything off a tool truck but needed something and wanted snap-on. The other day a truck pulled into the gas station I was at and I went up and talked to him and ordered my part. It will be in this week and I didn't know if it is customary to tip these guys or not considering how high snap-on prices are? I searched high and low and couldn't find anything on it, just wondering what you guys do that buy tools from a truck guy.

Hahahaha no.

If they had retail locations and the truck was not the "store" then maybe.

Thanks for all the replies, some made me laugh. I like many of you always try to take care of people who deserve it. I'll have to see where we meet (along his route somewhere I guess) and I'll buy him coffee or something. My problem with buying off the truck is the retail price, it is just too high IMO for someone that doesn't do this for a living, although I'm an avid home mechanic and do all my own work. I've seen excellent deals on ebay through resellers that buy huge lots of new SO stuff at auctions, sometimes you can get stuff for amazing prices. I've used Craftsman for years but have broke 3 1/2 ratchets over the years and I don't use them that much. It really ***** how downhill they have gone. And while I love the fact I can just go into any Sears and get a new one handed to me, Sears is on its last legs I think and may not be here in the future. I got all excited reading my own thread here and bought my first Snap-On ratchet tonight the SR80A 1/2" ratchet, can't wait to get it!

If you watch the classified ads on GJ you can at times get great deals. There is a regular classified poster here on LI and he has delivered several good deals.
But having a relationship with a Snap on truck is good, provided you find the right guy. There has been several threads here on GJ going in to detail.
You want a guy that will tell you the monthly specials and try to be flexible with him, you get to be a little more demanding if you are regularly spending 2 or 3 hundred a week. But most guys will not turn away a sale, but there are always exceptions to the rule.
We had one dealer in this area that used the Snap On price as suggested list and always charged more, so more shop owners just banned him.
It is like life some people you get along with others you just don't.

Not a chance. I live and breathe snap-on, but my guy charges full retail, never makes any deals for any reason, and keeps all of the promo stuff at home in a massive pole building calling it his "retirement plan."

this is interesting to me. ive only dealt with two snapon guys and the second is an employee of the first. both are completely willing to make deals if its an item they have on the truck and will keep a list of what i want and let me know when it goes on promo. i don't know your snapon guy, but being unwilling to negotiate or provide the promo deals which the company offers would not make me want to shop on his truck.

oh and no. i do not tip the snapon guy.

I gave my Snap on dealer a pound of Nantucket scallops for Christmas.
My wife gave him a dozen Oreo's with the Snap on logo on it.
I asked for a mat for Christmas since I still have two good SO jackets.
I got a nice mat from him black with SO logo in red.
& when I gave him the scallops shipped over night from Jake's in Hull Ma. he gave me the new black handled set of screwdrivers. So it was a nice surprise.
