I have a couple and never use them. If I run into something that they might help on I just grab a cordless driver.

I have an old Craftsman Professional ratcheting screwdriver (I'm pretty sure it's made in Germany). It's magnetic and the bits are housed in the end and you chose which one you want via a rotating cover. It also hinges in the middle so you can get better leverage.

All that being said, I hate the ****** thing. Every time I use it, the top housing spins and the bits fall out of the housing and get lost through the black hole in the floor. Also, I'm not a fan of magnetic bits, since half the time, they get stuck in the screw head and you have to do twice the work just to move on to the next screw.

Ratcheting screwdrivers have their uses in some situations, but for the most part, I prefer my regular screwdrivers. They feel more controllable. If I need a ratcheting screwdriver, I prefer to use a ratchet, a locking extension, and a screwdriver socket.

I just bought my first, a Milwaukee unit. I needed a T25 Torx on a Sunday evening, and buying a Torx bit set and ratcheting driver was cheaper than driving across town to get my tools in my other truck (no individual Torx drivers were available in Santucky, OR at 4:00 on Sunday afternoon). To be honest, I kinda forgot it ratcheted... I was more concerned with fitting my 6'6", 330 frame under the dash of a Volvo S40...

I've had plenty over the years but never used them because they weren't very good. After a lot of urging I finally broke down and bought a Snappy and about 8 later I can't stop buying/using them. A friend came over to do something and he needed a screwdriver. I handed him my SO, he turned it once or twice and stopped, stepped back and looked at it in his hand and asked me "what is this wonderful thing?" He bought one shortly after that. I think (for me at least) that sums it up, it's that nice. And I'm not a die hard SO guy either...
