Not so much sockets as extensions. I will use a chrome socket only if I do not have it in an impact then I usually go out and buy the impact...

Time is money merk... I have one or two cheap chrome sockets I picked up just for impact use. As far as loosing an eye I never get an impact closer than my chest for that exact reason! I do use my impact sockets and extensions by hand all the time

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Isn't that the reason to own Craftsman chrome sockets?

Seriously I use impact sockets when using an impact, but I would be lieing if I said never, I've had one occasion where I had to use chrome for clearance reasons and one time I had to use a chrome socket because I didn't have that size in impact yet (many years ago before getting my metric 1/2" impact sockets).

I have broken a 3/8 drive chrome socket with an impact and luckily it did not shatter. It was a Craftsman deepwell 15mm 6 point used on a 1/2 impact with a 1/2 to 3/8 adaptor and got it replaced under warranty with no questions asked

I use chrome SnapOn sockets on my 3/8" impact all the time with no issues. I'll use them on my 1/2" gun if I absolutely have to.

To the guy who posted about a chrome craftsman 36mm socket... Be careful. I used a coworker's brand new one last week because I was too lazy to walk 20 feet for my impact socket. The thing literally blew up in my face. Thank god this sissy was wearing safety glasses

I know it was the wrong tool for the job. Sometimes you need to use a chrome socket, a 36mm axle nut is never one of those times.

Yeah, I was always careful with it. And I did replace it with the "proper" socket designed for axle nuts. But, that's when I started to question things. The axle socket is chrome, but claims it can be used with an impact or breaker bar. It is deeper than the Craftsman and fits more axles, but since it is chrome, I wonder of it is safer to use.

Funny that this came up, I was looking at an old socket I have (my dads, S-K 1-1/4 me thinks), and the chrome is pretty much gone on it (the nickel is holding strong), I decided to take a peak inside, the inside wall of the socket was completely mangled just below the contact area. The outside looks fine, if I remember I will snap a pic tonight, although I am not good at remembering.

I had to use a 1/2 in chrome extension with an impact. Its a no name and has held up for years... I was grinding, cutting and sanding at eye level last night and decided to buy a face sheild. It was 13 bucks at lowes. After what i saw coming at me and wiped off that shield, I dont know how I havent lost an eye already... Ear plugs are your friends too....( i know call me a wuss, at least I will hear you!!)

Ear protection is good

My dad has been in the industry for years, He just started wearing ear protection (he is 50) because of what has happened to him the rest of his life. Same as safety glasses, always wears them now, never used to, I guess that is what happens, you grow up and get wise. Or maybe it was the metal sliver in his eye.
