Do Zip Ties Discolor over time ?

I'm not talking about black zip ties outdoors.

But the regular *clear-whitish* nylon in ANY brand - do all of these discolor to a tinge of clear-yellowish over time. Regardless of it not being exposed to sun, indoors, etc.


I primarily use black zip ties - but I'm running into a application where I might need to use non-black...

Yes. It's pretty common for unfilled nylon to yellow slightly with aging. UV will lead to faster yellowing.

Yes, nylons will tend to yellow if exposed to sunlight, CCFL lamps and heat. If stored covered then likely very little.

Nylon natural is an off white or transluscent.

The yellowish tinge is what got me to not use them versus black. I generally stock 18lb and 40lb in 11 length...buy in bulk.

Hmmm. Need to do some digging around. I don't want to use black but natural/clear ----but I don't want to use it it if it will yellow...

Even black, outdoors, will bleach out and get brittle over time. Many years. It does last a lot longer than natural.

If they make "white" zip-ties -- real white pigmented nylon, not unfilled natural -- that will help a lot with yellowing. And given all the colrs thst zip-ties can be dound in, it would be kimd of surprising if somebody didn't make white. Dunno that I've ever seen 'em, though.

Another idea, of course, is to paint the natural ones after installation. Definitely a compromise, but maybe an option.
