My wife was traveling and stopped by a second hand store. She was kind enough to check for older wrenches for me.

She sent a photo of this one. It had no identification on the back side, and only a raised M on the side shown in the photo.

Any idea who made this? My online search found a mention of Ford wrenches with an "M", but it sounded like maybe they had a Ford logo on the other side.

Thanks.

I think Manzel and Moore drop forging both made wrenches like that. A Ford guy would know, but I think Manzel was just a "M" and Moore Drop was an M in a circle.???

I picked this Ford wrench up recently because I assumed that the M in a circle meant it had been made by Moore Drop Forge. I’m not sure about the plain M.

Gentlemen, thank you all for your input. Like Don said, I learn something new every day here.

Woody, with your suggestion I have found the closest match so far. The attached photo from e-bay shows a very similar wrench by Manzel. Even the grind marks are oriented the same. My "M" has serifs and the "M" on the e-bay wrench does not. The wrench on e-bay also has the Ford script on the back (mine does not).

I have yet to find any wrenches online that don't have "Ford" on the back. However, I'm not surprised because there is probably little interest in a wrench only marked "M".

Thanks

@Leviton's specimen is using a typewriter font. The "Manzel" specimens of @d42jeep (just above) and the specimen shown on AA's site are both marked with a sans-serif block font.

I'm only part way down this rabbit hole at the moment. It appears that "Manzel Bros." moved locations at least three times (up and down Babcock Street)(309 Beard Street is a 3-story residence constructed in 1914, so it's probably reasonable to assume that was Mr. Manzel's dwelling place.
It would also appear Mr. Manzel was operating (or was connected to) another business entity, Standard Automatic Lubricator Co. of Buffalo, NY.
