99% just sit on the pad, requirements are different in hurricane areas and may require a different pad and anchoring it down. Mini splits often are designed to be anchored, being tall and narrow they are s bit mire prone to tipping.

IMHO, It depends on where you live. My city inspector not only requires mounting the compressser / condenser to a platform but because of seismic concerns the plastic platform must be bolted to the slab under it.

In my area I know of no requirement AND at least a few AC contractors here when quoting the work will spec a *plastic* pad.

I have mine on brackets, mounted to the foundation, but that is to keep it out of the snow and get it tighter to the house.

Same here, the bottom is about 32" off the ground. I got tired of mowing around it, and dragging the weed eater to that side of the house just for one obstacle. And the added benefits are, it doesn't get pelted with grass trimmings from the mower, or snow piling up around it.

I had mine replaced about 6 or 8 years ago. Styrofoam pad cover in a thin layer of concrete. Gravity.

In new construction, we do in some locations to keep them from being stolen.....Amazing the amount of work methheads will put in to get drug money, but they won't 'work'.....

I changed out the condensing unit at my house about 15 years ago. Recovered the gas out of the old unit, put it on the skid from the new one, and set it out at the street for appliance pickup by the town.

My wife left for work about 6:30 the following morning. Hadn't been gone more than a couple minutes when the phone rang. It was her, telling me to go out and look at the old unit. Scrappers had picked that sucker clean some time overnight. Nothing left but the base pan and bare compressor. Might have gotten $15 for everything after they hauled it 20 miles to the nearest scrapyard.

mine sits on what I thought was a cement pad. turns out it is some sort of plastic/vinyl cement looking thing. not bolted down. fired up the AC yesterday (hit 92 this weekend) and after 23 years it's still running fine...

I love Cladlite pads. No muss, no fuss, no backache...

I've seen them do that while still connected to the house!:spit:
