Hazard Protection Aside

Take 2 Data Cat cables Burial Grade (flooded). One on pipe, one just Direct Buried....

Anyhow, what is the GJ consensus. All Conduits get wet regardless, and it's just a matter of when ?

It's normal for them to fill with water, & by code they are a wet location. they may or may not, but it's better to plan on them filling with water.

Pretty much assume water.

I mean assuming dry doesn't prompt you to take anything into account. Like water. Because you should assume it will get wet.

Every single one has the potential to get water in them, whether they do or not. Hence, the wet location designation.

I've seen 2 -filled- conduits on my lifetime.....ended up making a weep hole

For discussion sake, aside from rodents damage, whats worse. Wet rated cable sitting in waterlooged pipe or direct burial cable jus sitting in -earth- where are least water drains

I have had comm conduits running from the closet, under the slab to locations within the building fill with water. If it's buried, it will probably be wet

Warm humid air, cooler ground and conduit. Water will eventually condensate. With no other place to go and not enough air movement for evaporation it will get wet.

I had to argue with an engineer about underground conduit being a wet location. His response was that since I am in a arid climate it isn't a wet location, I said no and the cable you call for is not rated for wet locations. The engineer called the AHJ and ended up having to order all new cable.

I have seen a few underground conduits without water in them but very rare and probably not all of the time.
