I'm not a pro wrench. I use my tools for home repairs of myself and a couple rentals. My drill set consists of a cordless Mikita drill and a corded Bosch rotary hammer. The Bosch uses SDS bits and before I bought this a few years ago, I didn't know this existed.
My biggest complaint with my Mikita drill is the bits "slip" when drilling into something tough. The chuck loses traction on the drill bit and the chuck twists around the bit that gets stuck in the object I'm drilling.
Maybe this is an intentional safety feature? Like a governor that would prevent the motor from burning out because the drill bit isn't turning free enough in the object I'm drilling into. Or maybe it's a crappy chuck.
My SDS bits on the Bosch are incredible. I rarely use it compared to my Mikita because it's just for drilling concrete and block. But SDS seems like it couldn't slip. I can't find any SDS based regular non-rotary drill tools.
I understand that SDS bits are significantly more expensive than regular drill bits, and bits are meant to be disposible to some extent. But as a handyman I don't find myself wearing out bits enough that cost would be an issue.
Does an SDS cordless drill exist? I saw Bosch makes a compact cordless rotary hammer but that looks like overkill and too heavy for regular handyman drilling stuff. Perhaps I can replace the chuck on my existing Mikita or buy another cordless drill that allows a different chuck? My Mikita was a consumer grade, I didn't know better at the time and am open to buying a nicer one.
