Get your mind out of the gutter,

I always have been anti service pit because I know two guys that have fell in them with lasting effects. Even covers never seemed like a good idea.

However I saw a video of an Iowa farmer that sells a licensed version of these. And it got me to thinking that many would be much better served by a pit and platform like this instead of a lift? Especially guys like me that not only have trucks and cars but a two ton truck and several tractors.

My 30' x 50' stick built barn, which I put an inside enclosed work area inside it, which is 18' x 30', has a pit that is
42" wide x 6' deep x 22' (YES, 22 FT.!) long. It is concrete block lined with a drain in the floor (and I've only let water go down it,
NOTHING ELSE!). I made wooden removeable covers for it many years ago.

The reason it's so big is that the previous owner was farming 180 acres here, and wanted a pit long enough that he could
work on his semi tractor from end-to-end without having to move it.....Boy, am I glad he made it that big!!

It has come in SO handy over the years, mainly when I totally rebuilt the front and rear suspension on my '79 Vette,
both at the same time!!
In the pic on the right where the light is on, you can see the sturdy built stairs into the pit....the stairs on the opposite
end are real good, but not quite as good as the one shown in the pic with the light!

We had a new pit fitted at work it was like a big steel trough with runners made on the side tops for rolling jacks at one end a set of steps and the other end a side escape hatch to get out the pit in case of a emergency . The pit is about 35 ft long

I don't even care to inquire about the cost of that....I'll just stick with my hand-made 2" x 4" covers with alum. diamond plate on
them, and use my old wheels with boards on top and short step ladder to continue doing what I've been doing with my pit for
over 30 years! I'm sure the $$$$ is mind-boggling!!

Look like they may have used an autocorrect on the title, or didn't use a speller, or proofread. Got me interested wondering if anyone on the forum had a pimp, really.
