Does anyone else make "DUO" sockets?

GP's duo sockets have been out for a while now. Going to pull the trigger on a 3/8 master set soon. Want to be sure there are no other comparable thin impact options before I do so?

I has the Sunex 3/8th set. They are not as thin as my crappy chrome sets. :(.

In fact I tried to use them exclusively without chromes, I came across many applications where they did not work and I had to go get a chrome socket, or was screwed because I didn't have chrome sockets with me.

Part of the thickness of an impact, besides structural integrity, is to get more mass for more momentum to impact with more force (sorta like a flywheel). Probably not great impacts for super frozen nuts but for the guys that use their cordless impact as basically a ratchet for everything they are probably great.

If true, is this still valid with the amount of power we have in modern impacts?

Does anyone have an official answer? Maybe I should have titled the thread "Thinnest Impact Sockets?".

Google the 19mm Toyota crank/harmonic balancer sockets. Basically normal impact sockets don't get it done so brands sell very thick versions to get them off. Some people actually make their own by taking a large socket (in the 30'smm) and weld a 19mm socket inside it so you have more mass to impact.

So aside from clearance being a problem sometimes, why can't I use regular impact sockets on a hand ratchet?

No reason at all in my experience. I use Napa/Sunex impact sockets all the time with hand & power tools, and rarely do they not fit or have clearance issues.

There are times where a thin 12pt chrome is about the only option though.

I don’t know. Hell, I don’t even know that you shouldn’t! I’ve been using impact sockets with hand tools for years with no issues.
