Hey all,

I've had this vice with accessories for several years. It was given to me by my Father-In-Law, and he got it long ago when he was stationed in Germany. Are any of you familiar with the brand? It seems like it's a modular system, or is specifically made for some purpose. Thanks!

It is modular. They're used a lot by modelmakers, but I've seen ones with attachments for working with circuit boards too.

Nice system. Generally, I see this on panavise type ball bases.

It is actually a "vise" not a "vice".

The Zyliss vise system was sold extensively at county fairs and home shows by pitchmen in booths who expertly maneuvered them through their paces, demonstrating their flexibility as an all-around handy tool.
All while the guy in the next booth was showing how easily burnt cheese fell out of his 'miracle surface' pans, and the booth on the other side had a guy sawing soda can in half with a kitchen knife, and then slicing a tomato into see-through slices with the very same knife.

I have one of these, inherited from my Dad. I have never found it to work particularly well for anything. The crank tends to slip and the threaded shaft tends to bind. Good luck with yours.

No vise collection would be complete without a Zyliss.

Athol, Balco, Columbian, Dunlap...... Wilton, Yost, Zyliss.

Here's a (boring to me) video, but it was informative as to how the system works.

I see these on Ebay, prices vary.

I've got one of those. Not much good if you're trying to bend a 3/4 inch steel bar but I find mine really handy. I usually keep it in the truck cause you can generally attach it wherever you need to. I mostly use it for holding something that I'm cutting on site, a piece of wood or a tile etc.
It's not really much point around the house but it beats the hell out of lugging around a large heavy one that you mostly use for small jobs. quick to set up and works in a variety of configurations. You might only use it once a month but that one time you do need it you'll be glad you have it.

I can't speak for other locales, but in Arizona at least, these damn things show up on Craig's List by the dozens sometimes. There must be an infinite supply in the market. Either nobody buys, or nobody wants to keep theirs, or both. Usually over priced too, which is probably part of the problem. :dunno:

It's a very complicated Hard Liquor mixing system . . . . so it IS a vice!!

LOL . . Just kidding.

That's a very unusual system with quality components. You'll have to 'school us' on how you're going to use it!
