Check with Orange Aluminum. I buy some other extrusion shapes from them. If I were making that console, I would machine that groove in the side panels when I made them or make the channel and attach to the side panel, depending on the materials.

Whose photos are those? Have you asked them?

If you want to help it slide easier, you can buy UHMW tape.

I love that stuff. In this situation, I'd just cut the sliding panel out of UHMW, like King Starboard (or a generic equivalent).

I think you might find that at ACE hardware. Aluminum U channel.

That's what I'm thinking. My local Ace carries aluminum U channel sized to fit around standard panel thicknesses.
