Does anyone know where to get this carpet edge trim piece?

I am putting indoor/outdoor carpet in my shed and I needed a metal or rubber type trim piece that will go on the front of the opening to the shed to protect the carpet from getting kicked up in a way from walking or moving stuff inside of it.

At first I thought about using one of those wall edge covers at lowes or HD but they are very cheap plastic. And will break easily. IF I had a metal bender I could simply taking some diamond plate and bend it at a 90 degree angle and then nail it to the front opening edge of the shed ontop of the carpet and be done with it, but I don't...

I found this picture:

Mainly the black piece is perfect. The longer part will go down vertical while the little lip of it will go on the surface of the shed floor and cover the beginning part open seam of the carpet.

this is a good picture of what they have on their site:

Imagine that the the brown flooring is the carpet and the base of it is the shed opening. I'd simply just nail that piece right into the carpet/floor and be done with it.

Does anyone know where I can get such a thing... can be metal or rubber honestly... Wish I had the tools to make it but would prefer it to be low profile.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Could you just use a length of auminum angle? Drill and countersink the holes for a neater installation (or just use wafer head screws) to attach.

Sure!! Actually that would be perfect!

I found something like this as well:

Where does one get aluminum angle? From the images I just googled it's exactly what I am looking for, but it doesn't appear to be at any of the big box stores?

Found this on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CNLV1Y8/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Noticed that it appears to be thick thought?

Probably do the 1/8" inch thickness because that's about 3mm... the 1/2 in leg length might do fine as well.

I noticed as well that there is a thickness and a wall thickness... What does it refer to as the plain thickness?

Thanks,
-Nigel

they carry aluminum and steel angle iron at HD. It is in the hardware aisle.
Not the greatest selection though. A regular hardware store would also carry it.

I know Menards has it in the carpet section. They have it in chrome and brass color. 8' sections. Just about any home improvement place should have it.

Most lowes and home depots have aluminum angle in their hardware section. If it o ly for a shed you could even use steel angle iron

I was in the flooring store and they had racks of trim in the back. So if you find a full service flooring store stop in and ask there. Probably a trim piece for where a carpet meets a wooden stair.

Thanks all! This helped greatly!

Found this and I think I'm going to go with it since it's a little wider than I need it will actually work out better after I measured the width to the floor.

He is also going to cut it to length for me. A little pricey with shipping but I think it's going to tie in my idea perfectly and protect the front from the lawnmower going in and out.

That looks pretty slick. And, possibly, in more ways than one. Careful when it gets wet!

But very nice looking. I'll have to remember that for some project down the road.

I thought it might be slick but honestly for just the 1.5" it extends it's only keeping the carpet down so it doesn't pick up from moving stuff in and out..etc.

I believe you can get it at the autoparts store but I believe it's the cheap ****.. plus I don't think they sell it in 72" lengths which I really needed I think 68" but that's ok.

Should look really good once I get it and modify stuff for how I want it to look...lol Should all come together here by next week and I can post some pics!

The aluminum stock that stores like Lowe's or Home Depot carry is very expensive. Try local welding or metal fabrication shops. These shops will have much longer lengths of stock, they can bend and cut to spec, and will have a much wider choice of material widths and thicknesses.

A local welding/fabrication shop has prices that are half the cost of the same stuff that Lowe's carries. If I need a very small piece of steel or aluminum stock, I'll go to Lowes' as the store is a mile away, but for larger stuff, you will save a ton of money by going to the pros.
