Does anyone know why 1/2"dr, 6pt, deep metric sockets are not offered by Proto, Armstrong or Williams? The SAE equivalents are there but no metric.(?)

Metric tools are primarily for automotive. Proto, Armstrong, and Williams are industrial tool brands and most industrial applications are SAE.

Production costs are pretty high to do a tool run, and they probably don't think they would sell enough to make back the money and then some.

As well, they already offer 12pt deep metric, and deep sockets are not meant for high torque applications, so there is no need to make a 6pt since it doesn't meet a neccesity purpose either. On the SAE side of things, there is a lot of demand being that industrial applications are almost all SAE in America, combined with them needing a deep socket more often than in automotive applications.

It would be nice, yes, and I would buy them, yes, but business wise, there isn't enough demand or reason to make them.

Our plant uses almost entirely metric fasteners, large electric cabinets. But we don't need much in deep, shallow 12pt works fine usually. Proto is definitely one of our main tool suppliers.

There is still SAE on Automotive stuff as well. Not to mension that Proto at one time was marketed as an automotive tool before going industrial and even sponsored racing events in the past.

To clarify, I'm referring to 1/2" Dr, 6pt, deep, metric, non-impact sockets. (All three companies offer 6pt, deep in 1/4" - 1/2" Dr, SAE and 1/4" - 3/8" Dr, Metric.)

Every individual socket I've ordered through McMaster has been Proto so far. I'm thinking of calling them to see if they'll confirm the manufacturer before I buy a set.
