Does anyone make a long (4-6") P-0 bit?

I recently picked up a Black & Decker Matrix 20v cordless drill & impact combo to use at work disassembling and reassembling computers (mostly laptop & desktop), printers, TVs, and A/V equipment. I also picked up a 68-piece Ryobi driver bit set, which I'm pretty happy with so far. But three specific bits that would be useful, which the bit set doesn't include, are a P2, P1 and P0 long (4-6") bit. I see plenty of companies make P2 and P1 long bits, but nobody makes a P0 long bit. There honestly aren't many screws I encounter which require P0, but they do crop up occasionally, and they're often in small, recessed holes which make driving them impossible without a long bit.


BTW, the drill is excellent for my intended use, with the clutch set to 1 it puts just the right amount of torque on small laptop screws during reassembly.

A couple of thoughts. One is a two-in-one pocket screwdriver. This is my ADED tool- made by Lutz, Enderes, and probably others. It's kind of along the lines of the 6-way normal sized drivers, but has only a single double-ended bit. Slotted drive at one end, small Phillips at the other. I'm not sure whether it is truly a P0, but it is smaller than most marked P1. It's 4 1/2" long, 3/16" hex, and chucks into a drill nicely. I've used mine that way many times. Many TrueValue hardware stores have them.
Also, you could use a regular Jeweler's screwdriver and cut the swivel end off, leaving a nice fluted cylindrical body that a chuck would grip very well.

Are the screws by any chance usually found in electronics? If so you might try looking for a Vessel JIS 0 crosshead screwdriver. The JIS screwdriver is probably less likely to strip out screws than a bad Phillips screwdriver would be, and both screwdrivers and bits seem to be available in longer lengths than you normally encounter. This is one place that carries the screwdrivers. It looks like the ) size is only 75mm. though.

Ummm... Excuse me... I believe the original poster is looking for a LONG (4-6") P-0 bit not a screwdriver. Kind of hard to put a screwdriver into the chuck of his Black & Decker Matrix 20v cordless drill & impact combo.

McMaster sells 1/4" hex shank P0 phillips power bits in 2", 2 3/4", 3 1/2", 6" and 12" lengths.

JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) bits aren't a bad suggestion. They work much better for the JIS screws I find in computer stuff, especially printers. If you are going to research them, might as well go directly to the North American distributor for Vessel Tools: http://www.vesseltools.com
