Does anyone own the 41" US General box from HF?

If so and you own both top and bottom, could you shoot me a quick height from the floor to the very top with the top open. I will be finishing with the paint this weekend and wanted to hang a few of my Gladiator cabinets over where I plan on putting the box and want to make sure I leave enough room. Adding up the measurements on their webpage it has a height of 62", but I have a feeling that is with the very top of the upper box closed.

Thanks.

Can you take the height of the combo, add the depth of the top box and then add an inch or two?

I only have the lower; no top box.

There is a HF about a mile away from me; I'll see if I can swing by there and measure it for you.

Thanks, but I don't want you to make a trip just for me. I like the idea about adding the depth of the box. Figure 62" plus another 18" or so puts me at 80 inches. Don't think that will work, a little too high but will take a look when I get home. Guess I will have to re-evaluate my layout.......again.

Has anybody compared fit, finish, value of say the EXTREME 41" combo to the H.F.

Pretty sure H.F. was less money, buy my conclusion was the overall look and feel of the H.F. 41" was just mediocre at best !!!!!!!!

Just my .02, its your money!!!!!!

Monte406SS is right about the height with the top opened. However, I find that opening it to 70" (not full extension) is enough to actuate the unlocking mechanism and also allow pretty good access to the top compartment. So if you have that much headroom, I think you will be in decent shape.

Alternatively, if you don't need mobilility, you could remove the wheels and gain another 6-7 inches of headroom.

I agree that they are great value for the money. I, like everybody else I imagine, got mine on sale with a 20% (or maybe it was 25, not sure) off coupon. Both pieces out the door, tax included for $556. And they are solid, well-made boxes.

Well, just received a 20% off coupon, went to HF and they were all out. And they couldn't order it because the warehouse was all out. Must be a hot item. Will check back in a week or so. I decided to get the bottom section only. It will fit nicely under the Gladiator cabinets I installed last week.

Website shows the bottom only section at 400 lbs. Is this true? Should be fun getting into/out of the truck.

I have one also... With the side box. My brother in law got one a few years back. I thought he was nuts when I heard he bought something from there. Until I saw it. Better than ANY Craftsman box out there. I bought one last year in black.. Excellent purchase. I got mine on sale.. $919.00 out the door. My friends think I'm nuts for spending 900 on a tool box. Those guys have their stuff in buckets and milk crates. I may not have a nice decked out garage like some guys but my tools are the best I can buy. That's about the only thing I bought from HF ..

That is good to hear. They had a model on the floor, but it was sold, waiting for customer to pick it up. The drawers slid really nice, much better than my Craftsman.

Do you happen to remember how tough it was handling it when you brought it home? Like I said, I am only going for the bottom section now, but the website says it weights 400 lbs which seems way too heavy.

I can't remember exactly but that seems a little high but not much. I think the label on mine said 320 for the box and 350 for the crate. It is a heavy sucker. Definitely a two man job to unload.

I've had the lower for a month or two now and I like it a lot.

I bought a 41" MasterForce from Menards. It weighs about the same. Mine was packed really well with styrofoam. When I got it home the wife and I just slid it out, stood it on end, then tipped it down. Cut the box at the bottom then lifted the box off. Not a big deal really and I only had the use of one arm to help her. LOL!!! Unless you drop it out of the truck, it is, or should be packed well enough to tip it around.

Perfect, thanks! Hopefully they will get them back in the warehouse shortly.

76-1/4# to the highest point when open.

I got all three pieces of mine out of the back of my truck by myself (I got the side cabinet too). I won't say it was easy, but I've dealt with worse. Lots of packing material to clean up. I got the top chest up on the bottom section without help...nearly died doing it, but all's well that ends well.

I've got the bottom box and the side cabinet. I'm very happy with these boxes and they do go on sale periodically which makes for an even better deal. Bottom was heavy to muscle out of the truck, but I did it myself.

I picked mine up at the store(hf) It was packed excellent and on a shipping pallet. I had to get rid of the pallets and fit all three pieces ( Bottom, top and side) in my Saturn VUE.

Thanks guys. I could not believe the website posted it as close to 400 lbs, has to be all the pieces together. I will keep calling them until they get 1 in stock.

The weight of the cabinets reflects the amont of steel in them.

After all, you are not putting them in an airplane, so heavy guage steel is to your advantage.

Well, the HF by me had their weekly delivery today and had 4 bottom cabinets in this shipment. Luckily I was able to snag one.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help. This cabinet is solid and much better than my old Craftsman I have.$320 after the 20% coupon, tough to beat that, except maybe something used.

Now I have to figure how to rearrange all these tools again. Guess that means more time in the garage. Wife should love that :bounce:

The red, it was the only color they had. Doesn't seem like the stores get the yellow and black ones very often, I suppose you could special order it.

No issues, I have both red and black Craftsman boxes, so either color would have worked :D

I'd imagine the yellow would be pretty dull considering the powdercoat/bedliner/texture finish they have. any pictures? I'm looking into one of these as my next purchase. I've got my 26" top/bottom sold as soon as I buy another box, or so my friend says

I will snap a couple tonight when I get home. The garage is almost finished, a little more paint. I have the 6 Gladiator cabinets hung (thanks again to whomever posted the $29 Lowe's clearance on these cabinets) and just need to run the speaker wire to the corners. I am using a 7 year old laptop to play all my mp3s and it sound awesome.

Again, for the price it seems this cabinet is tough to beat. Plus since I really couldn't fit the upper section beneath the cabinets, I can use the top of the lower section as a small workbench since it is the perfect height.

I got one about 4 or 6 months ago. I think it was $360 after tax. That was using a 15% off coupon. When I moved a month ago, my brother and I rolled it onto the trailer using a couple of steel tubes at ramps. It is heavy. I recall when I first got it, the fiance helped me unpack it. I was packed well. I was even on a little pallet--which made it tough because it had to be lifted staight up to get the wheels out of the pallet. I would say it is at least 300 lbs.....

When I got the box over to the house, I was able to use the forklift to unload it. Much easier..... That's my twin bro on the forklift......

I agree that it is every bit as good as craftmans.... for half the price. Can't compare it to snap on....but it works for me.....

I thought about 2 side by side as well, but figured I would wait to see how quickly this 1 fills up.

Probably a good thing I did not get both at once, got home really late from work last night (couldn't snap pics) and saw a beautiful stainless mini-fridge sitting next to my cabinet. Appears the wife and my parents have been discussing how nice a job I have done organizing and transforming the garage that they felt I should be awarded with a place to store my beer while working out there.

Little does my wife know is that by doing this she will now only see me when I come in to go to the bathroom :D Maybe that was her plan

I bought one as well the other week. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I wanted something decent. For the price I think it's not a bad box. The equivalent priced Craftsman is **** compared to this.
