I have an electric 1/4 hp saw set for setting teeth on a blank hand saw without the templates for different sizes which I read on some forum you can make yourself with a little work.
It's such a cool tool that I don't need but can't toss or donate not being sure someone will get it that really loves it. That might sound weird. I can't even take it apart or mod it bc for its purpose like 2 electric sets were made and this is one of them which makes it untouchable. Anyway not sure this is the right place but I'm cleaning out my storage in Socal in Irvine and this is free to anyone who will use it to set saws. It works and will be available in a week approx.

I don't think that's a saw set. I think it is a toother. It punches out the initial outline of teeth that would then be filed to be made sharp. It should have an assortment of racks with different tooth per inch patterns. It knocks out a tooth, and then advances to the next and repeats. This is what you'd use on a blank saw that was filed flat.

A setter wouldn't need a flywheel like that.

Post it on a woodworking forum. People are always looking for machines like this. Especially those who make their own saws.

A toother, I think you are very correct. I had another machine that was the saw set. This one punches the teeth. The other machine was more ornate looking, also electric. So beautiful as far as machines go. I'll go post on Lumberjacks. Thanks

Have all the tools to set and sharpen handsaws by hand. Belonged to my dad. He taught me how to use them. As a teenager I thought the whole process was boring. Now it's a lost art and am glad I know it. My son-in-law laughed when he saw me sharpening one of the saws. Said, "Who uses a handsaw?". Didn't deserve a response. :lol_hitti

I still use various hand saws to make rough cuts on 2 x 4s as well as fine cuts for furniture quality joints, and everything in between. Sometimes it’s just easier and faster. I know there are hand held saw sets, and I would have assumed there were mechanical versions too, but I have no clue how to use either. With that being said, if I had the OP’s machine, I’d probably get a $5 “garage sale saw” or a blank of some sort, and then spend a cold snowy Saturday in the shop trying to figure out how to use it.

Jim C you are more than welcome to it then if you like. A snowy Saturday sounds like you don't live close to me and makes me jealous. 14 years, still not used to this weather or lack thereof.
Sawdustmaker, I'm sure there is some reason your daughter married that guy...
To me a sharp tool has always been a priority over whether I found the tool useful. I learned how to sharpen chisels and carving knives expecting then I would be ready to carve some fabulous piece of wood wonder but found I still have 0 artistic ability. The sharp tools came in handy for restoring stone but that was years after. Point being maybe your son in law should watch a little Karate Kid. Lol.
I can't scrap it. There is some guy out there who owns all the templates without a toother to put them on. Must be...

Thanks for the offer and if I was closer, I’d take you up on it. But you’re right, I’m literally about 2,000 miles away from you. If I’m ever out that way, I’ll give you call.

Just wondering..... who manufactured that machine?
