Does anyone why HJE's website is down?

Recently, I've noticed that accessing HJE's website is hit or miss, irrespective of time and day. Are you having trouble accessing their website as well? Not sure if DNS lookup fails or their server is legitimately down. I hope they're not running their servers within the store. Possible heat-trap? :bounce:
Hopefully, its just DNS / domain related. Need to look up a few items in their inventory.

Thanks! Appears its down for everyone as well. Not sure whats been going on lately, but it sure leaves me puzzled as they have, not just the best prices, but the "right" prices as well. You'd be surprised to know, I use them not just for tool purchasing, but as a price determination tool as well while comparing prices between various merchants.

What is HJE?

Welcome to the Harry J. Epstein Co!

If you have just stumbled upon us in this vast world we call the internet, we aren't just another online retailer. What makes us different? Well...

We've been operating out of the same brick and mortar store in downtown Kansas City since 1933.
We are a family owned tool store that specializes in good quality US made hand tools.
We buy large liquidation deals from many US tool manufacturers, so we have killer prices on what we refer to as "closeouts".

We are a wholesaler as well as a retailer, so if you are in the business of selling tools, we have a special dealer program we'd love to tell you about.
We are a small company that likes to talk to our customers, so if you have any questions feel free to pick up the phone and give us a call (or shoot us an email).
We have a box art program where we custom paint a picture of your choice on your box.
We try to keep things in stock, so typically we can ship in 1 to 2 business days. (We do have items marked "special order" that take longer.)
We've been doing this for a while so we know the merchandise that we sell. If you have any questions we have people that can answer them.

Don't know what your problems are. I just zipped right on to the website now.

It's working again now. Its gone offline several times lately. May be they're performing a server upgrade or something unusual is occurring. Hopefully, it doesn't go down again.

And I can't get on . . . Oh wait, there we go.

There are some very aggressive (and sometimes successful) hacking operations going on out there right now. Nobody is entirely safe. Every website is being regularly probed, which is nothing new, but somehow the impact seems worse. As a result, it doesn't surprise me to have trouble reaching a normally available website. My banking site was unreachable midday a week or two ago. Last year, my own sites were taken offline by some (not so) friendly Russians. What a pain.

Sometimes it takes forever to see search results or particular item pages. It's possible, the server is constrained by load. That's why its occurring on an on/off basis. I hope their servers are located in the USA. I'm guessing they are. :D

Maybe power surge or outage from the severe thunderstorms that's going on now or passed. My friend in New Mexico told me that yesterday.

Cart also can load very slow. I have already contacted Jori about it and sent him some info to pass on to his developers.

Eek! Makes us IT professionals cringe to hear that. Kind of like contractors watching the shed of doom being built. :bounce:

My observation is that HJE's followers will weather the storm as the web site is but a conduit to great tools.

I successfully managed to place an order this afternoon, though it seemed a crapshoot as to whether the "add to cart" button actually did anything. Luckily the receipt tells me that what I wanted did go through eventually.
