Its a firestone in houston. When i go to district training all the techs are happy and say theyre making good money. I believe our stores location and the change in the type of people in the area after hurrican katrina coupled with our crappy store manager are going to have this shop shut down in less than 5 years. From what i hear though, alot of techs love working for firestone. Just not this store. We get made fun of for always being last in the district as far as profits because it was once one of the highest stores.

A good while ago I had considered one in Spring (I45)

I can read between the lines on the hurricane sentiment. That is a common comment in the areas from greenspoint-north.

Unfortunately, someday almost all of us will become "that guy" (unless you defiantly decline every more difficult advancement opportunity that comes your way and stay stagnant where you already are).

That story about military mechanics getting a medal for a head gasket does nothing to bust the stereotype of the US types having six medals out of basic. One for shining boots, one for shooting the rifle, one for brushing their teeth...


There's stupid folks everywhere you go. This should come as no surprise to anyone.

The trick is to not be one of them!

Jeez man, I hope you get another job or enough to start up your own business. It's not even like he's deliberately ripping customers off, okay it is really, but it's the sheer bloodymindedness and incompetance behind it, I mean, a 50 quid job turning into a 300 quid one?!And most of it went on parts, not in the business' pocket...

The trick is to not be one of them!

You get 1 ribbon. (could get more depending on various scenarios) but the basic recruit is entitled to one ribbon (not medal) which simply means he passed the 1st phase of training. It would be considered redundant or useless, since it should be obvious who graduated or not, but the same ribbon is recycled by adding numerals or devices further down the line.

You may have some badge designating your shooting quality, BUT same badge is later recycled/reused when you specialize on particular weapons that not everybody would have a chance at using.

Sounds like the canadians were bitter when they found they were ineligible for the iraq campaign "medal".

The trick is to look like you know what you're doing. And be very cautious to not f**k it up.

Well, i'm only there until i get my qualifications, so hopefully should be done in 2-3 months. (I'll be PISSED if i'm not done by then.)

I won't go into the details any more, i'm sure you can tell enough about the place already. It's more biased to straightforward work and preventative maintenance than proper diagnosis of fault and complex work or large jobs.

I've had a cylinder head sitting on the bench for 4 days waiting for it to be taken for repair and skimming, it's now not going until Monday.

I'll have my own place one day, things will be different.
