Just bought two NOS in package 1/4" KD ratchets from 1994.
Both are nonfunctional due to the spring having fatigued out.
If I send them in will they do anything for me?

Not sure about a warranty but I have some broken K-D specialty tools too.

Your ratchet, are you talking about the round head with the torx screw, that also came in Craftsman, Allen, Armstrong, etc.?

I was asking because there's something about that design that seemed to have a problem. I had several of them that acted up. In at least one, the spring end in the pawl was badly worn down and would no longer stay in place. Not one of my favorites.

You mean this style?

Perhaps a Craftsman kit would work in it? I got them not long ago from Sears and it was one of the first ratchets I rebuilt. You have to watch out on these that the teeth in the handle head don't get wiped out because if they do, it's curtains for the ratchet, basically.

Oh yes. I replaced the guts long ago in that one with the Crafty guts. I think I have another Craftsman and Allen that need some attention.

I'd just get a couple of current kits from Sears, rebuild 'em and call it a day. I was given a 1995 tool set with those ratchets. My friend said, "I never liked those, never worked right". The whole set had light rust on it and was missing about 10 sockets. I cleaned everything up, found some of the missing sockets wedged inside bigger ones and completed the set with ones on Ebay.

I kind of like it actually.

They should, I sent in allen 3/8 version that I got a few years ago and they sent me a new ratchet. Took a while but I got a gearwrench 84t back, so it worked out pretty well for me.

Yes, if they still make the tool today. That KD round head no quick release ratchet and all of its NAPA, Allen, and Craftsman relatives is the sorriest excuse for a ratchet:wtf: You should definitely get Gearwrench to warranty it so, you'll have a decent ratchet.
