My home has a front brick facade with can lights in the soffit. 6 of these lights turn on together via a 3 way circuit and the other 2 are controlled independently. It looks stupid unless you turn them all on but because the switches are on different walls usually only the 6 ever get turned on.
I don't think that I can get into the overhang to rewire the lights the way that I would prefer them (that being all of them on together).

Does a product exist that could take the input from one of the cans on the main 6 and use that input to control the other circuit (assuming the second circuit was always left energized)?

Basically what I hope to do is to put a control on the 6 light circuit that trips a relay to make the other 2 come on as well. Does it exist?

Have you thouth about using a small X10 system ? Sends the signal over your AC wires. All you would have to do is change out the two switches to X10 switches and have the controller anywhere in your house. I think Radio Shack may sell them-if not then google X10 wireless. My controller sits on the kitchen counter and looks like a small alarm clock. Turns the interior lights on using a timer schedule or just push a button to activate.

Insteon makes a couple denies with a "sense" wire for just this purpose. However, I would just replace both switches with Insteon switches, and set the second one as a responder to the first.

If the switches only control the can lights you could also replace the switches with a programable timer set to the same time and they come on automatically. This of course would only make sense if your using them for security on/off automatically at a specific set time.

I'm still liking Insteon, it installs in the existing switch boxes and if need be you can always add an Insteon timer by just plugging it in, to control either or both :)

It expands into a much larger system as well.

I apologize if I am being dense but I am not quite grasping how the http://www.smarthome.com/2475S2/INSTEON-In-LineLinc-On-Off-Module-Non-dimming-w-Sense/p.aspx module would get its input. Would I need to run a wire from one of the existing lights over to the sense wire on the module? Or would I need to use 2 of the switches (in place of the existing 3 way switches) and this module (in place of the standard switch)?

You're not dense. I should have clarified a few things for you before posting the links my apologies.

With the Insteon switches (you can either have dimmers, or on-off relays based on your needs or loads)

If the load is dimmable then you can purchase a dimmer style switch, or ILL. If you simply want to turn them on-off, then simply purchase the relay style switches.

The one's I listed have a dual band technology. This allows you to *couple* (connect both sides of the electrical feed) via RF and power line.

This will allow you to control any and all lights, outlets, devices of your choosing via one single switch. :thumbup:

Please take a few moments to read the manuals to get a better idea of how it works. If there is anything unclear please post back.

Better yet sign up to the Smarthome Forum, to read, ask, and gain the knowledge you seek.

Once you go this route, you will never go back and think how you ever lived with out this sort of power and convenience.

SUMMARY: These switches will be programmed to communicate via power line and RF at the same time to control those lights. Any and all of these switches can control a *Virtual* load at anytime.

Meaning if you had one of these switches and they were properly linked to control / respond to your input. You can turn on, off, dim, ramp, any load in the home at will.

I need a wireless relay for lights on a barn that is about 300 feet from the house. The barn has its own power feed (meter) so forget nay kind of signal going over power.

A separate meter wouldn't nescessarly preclude using a powerline signal, although a separate transformer would rule it out. At 300' it might or might not work.

As long as both legs of the electrical mains are coupled properly you can expect an endless connection.

Having said this: The stated RF is up to *150* feet. Insteon is in the mist of making all of their products dual band. So, this is making the mesh network even more robust, consistent, and reliable.

Key things to keep in mind is that any noise makers, and signal suckers need to be properly filtered out. Key examples are computers, TV's, cell chargers, UPS, etc.
