Does MAC Still Make Their "Micro-Turn" Wrenches?

Since there is NO MAC dealer locally, and since MAC seems to have dropped a lot of their tools since becoming part of Stanree, I am wondering.

They used to have a better selection of Diesel engine tools than Snap On.

my mac man said the micro turns were discontinued except for a couple of diesel specific wrenches . i have a 15mm double box micro that is perfect for detroit series 60 turbos , wouldn't mind having a spare.

Can someone tell me how these micro turn wrenches work? Do they have a sloppy fit on the fastener?

Why is it the same size on both ends?

They are not sloppy fit. Both ends are the same size but the points are "clocked" differently so that when you flip the wrench end for end the beam ends up in a different spot to help in tight places.

Those are some nice looking wrenches. I could see them coming in handy. Discontinued -- what is Mac thinking????

So is it just a regular 12 point on both ends? Just off by a few degrees?
Or does it have some other shape, like spline?

I have a set, they are neat.

There happens to be a set on eBay right now, not cheap ($110 shipped, or best offer), but if you want them...

Bchee, is that a picture of ones you have?

It looks to me, like one end is straight, and the other end is bent around 15°.

I took the pict from the ebay ad that scottmlew posted.

I would be interested to know, for you guys that have a billions sets of combo or box end wrenches, how many different angles you can achieve on the same fastener.

Would you necessarily need a set of "micro turn" wrenches if they are just 12-point?

Or do all manufacturers make the 12 point cuts in the same way?

This is an interesting question. Perhaps someone with more patience than I could check this out for us.

Regardless, having the multiple angles on a single wrench is more convenient than switching between wrenches...

The Micro-Turn wrenches are in the 1990 MAC catalog. Each end is the same size, but they are "timed" 15 degrees apart from each other.

The set on eBay is metric.

Yeah, I looked at those. I won't pay that much for six wrenches with initials scribed on them. I paid $60.00 plus shipping for my SAE set that goes from 1/4" through 5/8" including the 9/32" and 11/32".

of course, they are hard to find....................:headscrat

Yep, I paid a little under $60 shipped for my metrics. This isn't a great deal, but they're hard to find.

So, basically they're the box-end version of snap-on 4-way 30-60 wrenches... I'm surprised nobody has picked up on that (manufacturers I mean, not people on here).

I've got both the metric and SAE sets-they're not the most used wrenches in my box,but when you need them, you need them.I probably wouldn't have bought them off the truck, but I got them when I bought a retiring mechanics toolbox.I believe the offset of one end from the other is 6 degrees.

This pict is from the Wright vs. Snap on thread. These are 2 different makers. Would you guys say these are "timed" the same?

I missed this thread a few weeks ago...Probably didn't enter because normally I'm not a big Mac Tools fan (unless it is old stuff)

Well...met up with a guy I was buying some Snap-On stuff from and he had a bunch of tools for sale from a tool box that he bought complete with tools.

He had a set of these for sale and they caught my eye. Having never heard of them, I checked them out and they seemed like top quality...Perfect chrome, nice length, VERY nice beam thickness, really impressed me actually. So I bought them...but I missed the metric set he had for sale!

Since I hadn't ever heard of them, I searched on here and hit this recent thread.

I thought I would add some pics for your viewing.

Here is a shot of the beam thickness on the 5/8" in relation to a Cornwell X-Long 5/8" combo. The MAC is thicker...(Cornwell is at the top of the photo)

I'm not sure if they're still making them, but this video I just made shows how they work. I love these things.

I have a set of 0 degree offset wrenches, they look like they should give two options for engagement approx. 15 degrees apart if you flip them over. Seems to me this could be a poor mans answer to the problem.

Nice score. I'm still on the lookout for some on the cheap. I only have a couple of both SAE and Metric.

Snapon wrenches are broached with a 7.5 degrees offset on the box end. When you flip over the wrench, you get clearance for your knuckles or to get away from an obstruction. Nine of the other truck brands have this feature.

Thanks! I started looking for them after I saw your toolbox tour video. I also watched you other video on the Micro-Turn's.

Anyone want to trade a 10mm for an extra 7/16" that I have?

I would never have guessed that this post would resurface after almost years from when I first asked the question

I have two of the 'S' wrenches, one 5/8" and one 11/16" which were the cat's *** for removing and installing the PT fuel pump on Cummins in-line engines.

Does anyone know what sizes were available in the Micro Turn series? I have 15 SAE wrenches (1/4"-1") and the 10-11-12-13-14-15-19 metrics.Other than the obvious 16-17-18 mm ,what other sizes were available?I first used one of these(18mm) to remove the inboard calipers on an XJ-6 back around 1989.Thanks!

I can find out, but my 1990 MAC catalog is literally at the bottom of the stack. And if I'm going to dig that deep, I might as well give you the part numbers too. I'll do it for a box of cookies. :D
