Does Mac Tools have anything that is super great?

I've been using the student discount for Snap On because the discount through them is better and I can get almost everything cheaper from Snap On than any other company that gives me a discount, but at the same time the Mac guy from work the other day mentioned that he would honor the discount himself right off the truck. So, with that said, does Mac offer anything that is so fantastic that it would be worth it to pay more over Snap On?

Don't get me wrong, I like plenty of other brands, but I'm trying to take advantage of these discounts.

I like their impact sockets better than snap ons. Also their red handled screwdrivers
The fit my hands really well. Their knurled extensions also come to mind.

Mac locking extensions are boss! Knurling is the best on these.... Also they sell some awesome small impacting air ratchets. They have them in 3/8th and 1/4". I'd what they call there bad as sockets mac edge or something they grip fasteners that are like 80 percent rounded. Pretty awesome I'm looking to get some soon.

Just out of curiosity, what discount is SO giving you? When I was at Wyotech in 2006, they had a sweetheart deal where they were the only truck allowed on the grounds but only offered a mediocre discount on about 20 different sets. Mac, OTOH, gave 50% off everything in their catalog except for certain part numbers, and those were still 30% off.

60% off everything Snap On, Blue Point varies, but is usually less. Mac is 50% everything, and Matco is roughly 50%, though often less. No shop equipment.

From what I've seen of Mac going cheap on drivers and pliers, I'll stick with snapon. If I have to replace something in ten years, I want the better odds that the replacement isn't Chinese.

In the past, Mac impact sockets were significantly cheaper than SO, if that still applies and you can get them cheaper than SO, go for it. I prefer the markings on them also.

Ditto for extensions.

I have about 60% Mac in my box. But I can't think of anything I'd pay MORE for than SO, which I think is what the OP is asking. Maybe a Macsimizer.

The one thing that is not great is their service. At least not in our town. After spending thousands of dollars with them we have no truck that comes to our town of 30,000 people.

The Facom made round head ratchets are nice. REALLY small heads on the 3/8" version.
Though they do tend to take advantage of the warranty fairly often.

Their sockets are super great as long as you get the ones with the R on the end of the part number. The R stands for "revised" and the reason for that is MAC revised their sockets in the mid 1990s at the same time when Snap-on's Flank Drive patent expired. The new revised sockets feature the Macdrive lobular drive system as well as the thinest socket wall of any chrome socket on the market.

Awp050 air impact wrench. I recently got the Bwp038 3/8 cordless impact wrench and i love it. Very light and compact.

I'll look into getting some of these things, thanks.

Also considering the AWP050 for the price. Like the way it looks too. Anyone have one and not like it?

I would buy the proto version of it. It's 250$ from trident.

I have my fair share of mac in my tool box, it all does what any other brand does. Preference is the key word.

When you use the student discount on the Mac, it's not much different than the Proto price from Trident.

Although I do like the Proto color schemes a lot better, but if OP has a good Mac truck coming to his shop for service, then he may prefer to go with the Mac version.

Oh that makes sense. Yeah, if they're pretty close in price, i would buy mac for the tool truck ease of warranty.

Yeah, the Mac one comes to about $214.50 after tax with the discount, according to what the dealer said (Which was to cut the online price in half, and add 7.25% tax and bring the money). Has to be paid in cash for the discount.

I kinda like how most of the Mac power tools look after checking them out.

Those precision torque wrenches are amazing. I reach for mine before the other brands. The offset on them makes a lot of things a little easier to get to.

I really liked there old BHFM long zero offset double box end wrench sets, thought I not sure they still sell them, haven't been on a mac truck in years and someone stole my set.

one of my favorites.
And their standard 3/4pc pry bar sets are beefier than my standard 4pc snapon that flex more than they should

It's a beast of a gun. You're laughing at that price.

the 1/2 impact is good, but I bought mine like 7 years ago, 1100 ft/lb in reverse. It was the John Force nascar edition. blue, very cool looking. I like the flip lug nut socket I bought with it.

I like the torx socket set from MAC. I have a 12" adj. wrench that i like a lot, I use it on random big bolts. I have a few body ball peen hammers from then with a fiberglass handle, they are great!
