Does Mac Tools make anything themselves anymore???

I've defended Mac Tools in the past saying their quality is great and CS is impeccable, but it seems recently their new products have hit rock bottom.

What is up with this expert line...............Cheap asian poop or what?

I'm just curious what their intent is and where they wanna go, I know all companies outsource work just like S/O and Matco, but it seems almost all of Mac's stuff is headed overseas, except for maybe their toolboxes/

I warrantied a hard handle screwdriver last month, came back USA. Can't speak for anything else, though.

Regular [non-"edge"] sockets [except spark plug which are imported], extensions, and most basic wrenches are all i know of. Many many of their tools have switched over to Taiwan import in the last 5 years. I think they'll have at least a little injection of USA as long as Proto remains a USA brand [simplifies manufacturing]. If Proto starts seeing loads of imports its all over.

Despite having many imports they dont look like bad tools. Just not worth anything near the truck brand premium pricing.

Mac and Matco both are predominantly toolbox makers who also offer a range of matching tools.

I'm not sure what, if anything, MAC are manufacturing now. They were still making hand tools until stanree closed the Sabina plant recently They might still be making boxes and some air tools but I'm pretty sure the evil empire has shut down everything else.

I have a MAC wrench and that's it in my tool box. So I was at the drags a couple weeks ago and ordered a Battery Jump Starter and distributor wrench from a distributor there figured I would give them a shot.
When they arrived the Battery Jump starter was made in China and the wrench was made in Taiwan.
That's not what I was expecting for the price I paid.
Maybe I'll just stick with the evil craftsman tools most everyone hates as they work for me and they cost less.

There are still a lot of the basic hardline tools that are USA made. I just got a hardhandle warranty screwdriver a couple weeks ago that is USA made.

A lot of their wrenches and sockets are USA made. As others have mentioned, the Edge line are imported, but many of the others are USA made.


The fine tooth ratchets are imported, but that's not necessarily bad. Some are Taiwan, but the round heads are the Facom design and made in Italy. I've owned these and they seemed well made and high quality.
