Does Metabo ever do deals?

That hasn't really been their game.

Best so far has been $25 of $100 during the holidays.

However! They did recently do $100 off the cordless 8-1/2" sliding miter saw at Lowe's over the holidays, so maybe this is a realization that they could benefit from some marketing support.

One other option is waiting for a 25-30% off storewide coupon from Zoro.com, though they only come around a handful of times a year.

best deal is to wait for zoro 25-30% off sale

That sounds like a pretty good plan.

Metabo could benefit from much better marketing, and I don't mean deals, but simply a website that shows me what the current lineup is and some dealer somewhere who sells (maybe not stocks, but at least sells) the full lineup.

As of a month or something ago, Metabo is now owned by Hitachi. Something to note. I know i've got about 2,000 dollars worth of their tools, but definitely don't plan to invest too much more especially cordless until I see the direction Hitachi takes them.

Agreed, I use their UK site because the US one is in shambles.

I asked my dealer about if they had any plans for heavier marketing support to help push into the consumer market, but he said their pretty committed to their small dealer model, which rules out the vast majority of consumers (and even prosumers).

In the past year or so though, there's been two $25 of 100 deals that have been run and the $100 off as mentioned earlier, so I'm hopeful there is more in the pipeline.

Interesting. What got all this started for me was that when I need a drill I got the Milwaukee 2603, not because it was my favorite drill but because at the time their high torque impact was the only cordless impact that would add real value in the shop (but I have yet to buy it because its need wasn't urgent and money was diverted to other things). I never really liked the Milwaukee ergos though. Now I see Makita will come out with high torque impacts soon and I like their drill more (and right now I could get their big drill, the 3 speed impact driver, and the 36v cordless circular saw for $429).

That said, the drills I like the most are Metabo, and I started thinking if I'm going to switch maybe rather than switch to Makita which I like more I should wait and see if Metabo comes out with a high torque impact and switch to my favorite brand. With the Hitachi acquisition, and with Hitachi's acquisition announcement only emphasizing how this will help Hitachi penetrate Europe, maybe I should just bite the Makita bullet.

I've been down that road as well, since Metabo has been withholding a bunch of tools from the US market, I considered making a switch to a more mainstream battery platform (though I've managed to import quite a few Metabo things that weren't available here). I still have high hopes that Hitachi wouldn't ruin something great; the LiHD batteries as well are pushing the envelope and open a whole new realm of possibilities given that they can output nearly twice as many amps as the cells everyone else is using.

Makita would be the worthiest of replacements in my opinion; I had a bunch of Milwaukee Fuel stuff and sold it all when I get my Metabo stuff.

Yea I like my metabo stuff, but part of that is also supporting non-chinese manufacturing, and having high quality tools that can take on heavy jobs.

That being said, I definitely kick myself sometimes that I didn't go Makita. Could've saved myself a lot of money, easier availability of their full tool line, etc. I've not been that impressed with Metabo's warranty service either. I made some inquiries on a 1 month old jigsaw via email, and have yet been able to speak to anyone. I've got the tool registered, i've submitted emails to the correct service department, and still nothing.

Given the choice of german tools post hitachi acquisition, I'd probably look at Fein or festool if i had the chance again, or Makita if I wanted to save a ton of cash and have full tool line availability here in the US

Fein needs to step up their ergonomics game, their tools are robust as hell, but they're overly bulky. I have a few Fein things, but they've all been purchased on ridiculous deals (like 50-75% off). They seem to price themselves out of the consumer market. Festool's lineup is too small for me, and their drills are way too much money for what's provided.

Have you tried Metabo's Facebook page? Don't be too nasty about it, just say you've been waiting over a month for a service request and have yet to hear from them. I think the direct sales internet/consumer channel for them is sorta new; most of their sales have been through dealers in the past, which would normally handle the warranty service for you.

Oh, one other thing that holds me in Metabo's system is the crossover Mafell tools, since they adopted the 18v Metabo battery. Hopefully Mafell continues innovating there as well.

I noticed the other day that Lowes is carrying Metabo now, anyone else see that?

Yep, they started putting them on their website a little over a year ago and started showing up in stores a few months ago. They sell a very limited selection though. On the one hand, I understand why they want to limit their inventory, but on the other hand it seems like a plan to fail because potential customers will be turned off thinking there is no way to buy bare tools or additional batteries and chargers.

I found a local dealer whose pricing was within 4% of CPO Metabo, so I'll be buying from them. Apparently they're also a Metabo repair center, and the few extra bucks I paid to buy local may come in handy later. (after talking with Metabo, I decided to go ahead and switch to them)

That's what I did . Best bet for many power tools that are like a fair trade item. Zoro still gives the 30% off. I got my Dynabrade sander that way too. Only issue is the WAITING !!! :D
