Does MiniSplit have to wall mount?

I don't have much wall space to mount the indoor part of the Mini Split and have the lines route conveniently. Since its a shop space I'm thinking I can build a solid mount for unit and hang it from the ceiling.

Any reason why this wouldn't work from the performance or functional perspective?

I'd like to go with the MrCool DIY system.

Thanks,
Martin

They make ceiling "cassettes", but they are not as efficient especially in large spaces.

And they have lousy air distribution, the blower motor run caps go bad and are a pain in the *** to replace, many of them drip in high humidity conditions... Can you tell I don't like them?

They were made to be mounted on a wall for a reason. Personally, if it were me, I would mount it on a wall like it was meant to be mounted.

They require a minimum space from the ceiling for airflow, and need to be kept in the wall-mounted orientation for the drip pan to work. On that note, you can run the lineset up to the ceiling (read the manual for how much vertical run you can have on the lineset), but the condensate drain has to be able to flow down. How are you going to make that work, hung from the ceiling?

I didnt make myself clear. The unit would still be in the same orientation as it would be wall mounted. Just wondering if there was any problems having the back side exposed or any other unseen issues.

I read the inquiry as setting up a mount a few feet away from the wall. ie in front of a shelf or something. The lines could still go out the back to the wall including the drain.

Now, if you mean something like in the middle of the room, then the drain line would be a concern.
