Do you not have a free disposal site to take old hazardous household chemicals instead of having to wait for it evaporate?

The entire point of paint thinner (including water for latex paints) is it evaporates, leaving the pigment/paint on the surface. So yeah... It's going to disappear. It is directly proportionate to surface area though... So it would take a long time in the open container vs if you painted with it.

What is this dirty paint thinner you speak of?

Paint thinner that's been used to clean oil based paint off of brushes is only dirty for a short time. All of the paint that makes it look dirty eventually settles out to the bottom, and you can pour off the clean thinner from the top within a day or so.

This ....above.

The junk will eventually settle. I never throw away used solvent. In fact I made a jug with a tap off the side just above the bottom. That way you can remove the settled solvent without disturbing anything in the bottom.

I also use the recycled solvent to spray on engines and other greasy stuff before pressure washing. It seems to work even better than using new solvent.

I recycle my dirty paint thinner and gun wash during the winter as "liquid kindling" Ultimately these products can be used over continuously by filtering.

Wouldn't that be nice. We used to have a day every year where you could line up and they'd take the junk off of your hands. I think they got scared of what people were hauling in, plus the cost of chemical waste disposal, especially unknowns, can be :scared::shocking:

He's got 5 gallons of dirty paint thinner that will settle and/r filter. And I can't even buy any in CA. I'm talking about mineral spirits — NLA. We use gasoline.

Well that solved the problem didn't it. Damn politicians.:lol_hitti
