Does Propane Heat smell?

I've got a 28x30 garage and the walls, ceiling (9ft) and the garage door are insulated. I use electric heat and its kinda expensive. I just purchased a 50,000 btu propane torpedo heater. My plan is to fire it up for and hour or so and then use my electric heat to help hold the temperature. Will I get an odor when using the propane?

It does have a slight smell. Nothing like a kerosene torpedo heater. I heat my garage with a 25K propane dual radiant burner. We are so dry the humidity is typically not a concern for me. Plus open the garage doors occasionally and the humidity and smell go away.

Like a propane cooktop in your house, there is a smell to burning propane. People that don't smell it every day should be able to pick it up pretty easily. DOn't know if it is odor that they add to aid in leak detection or if it is just the unavoidable imperfect combustion but there will be a smell from that torpedo.

Not nearly as bad as diesel/kero.

Bought brand new heater and brand new propane tank.
Used it for maybe 30-60 minutes, and it was smelling very bad.
It smelled of propane. To the point that I had to turn it off.
It was in a closed garage.
Tested all connections with soapy water with no luck.
I thought these propane heaters were not supposed to smell like propane.

May need an adjustment.

Brand new may require it to burn off the production residue. Much like a new barbecue needs to burn off stuff.

propane does have an odour, and some people have a more sensitive nose for it than others.
I have a very good nose for natural gas leaks . One gas repair guy told me several years ago I should apply with the gas company for repair guy, they liked people with a good sniffer. LOL
anyway, yes, perhaps the smell was from burning off residue, paint etc. Propane fumes to me have sort of a sweet smell
