I have not seen one in years they used to I think they quite in early 2000's around the same time they switched to soft grips

I had one and when it broke they swapped it out for the new style.
The F748 has a 49 tooth mechanism. It's the same kit that was used in the standard round head ratchet, model F749, which I believe was released some years before the roto version.
If you are interested in 1/4" drive, the discontinued all-metal roto model is model TM738 which has a 39 tooth mechanism. Like the 3/8" drive roto, the kit is the same as the standard TM739 round head ratchet.
I remember reading about someone putting the head from a THNF72 (the newer 72 tooth 1/4" roto with comfort grip) into a TM738 handle in order to get a 72 tooth all-metal roto, and apparently other than tooth count inside the heads are basically identical and the swap works perfectly. I don't remember reading about anyone doing this with the 3/8" version, but I'd be very surprised if it wouldn't work to swap heads with an FHNF100 if you really want to have an all-metal Snap-on 3/8" roto with the new 100 tooth mechanism. If you keep an eye out you could probably snag an FHNF100 with a beat up handle but good head for cheap.

When you say plastic, are you talking the hard handles or the comfort grip? I do not care for the hard handles, but I love the comfort grips. I only use my all chrome if I am going to get it really nasty in grease or some type of fluid, especially brake fluid.
Are you thinking the old handle may fit the new head? That could be cool.

If you are trying to convert 100 tooth I know the hard handle and soft grip are slightly different in adjustment screw was removed for newer soft grip but not hard handle oddly
Are you referring to the screw that holds the forks together and adjusts tension for the head swivel? Did they switch to a permanent fastener for the FHNF100 in recent production? That would be really surprise me as it's pretty much been a standard thing for all Snap-on rotos as well as the SK 3870 through its decades of production. Also lately Snap-on and many others have even started using adjustable screws for standard flex ratchets, so I really can't imagine why they would start reversing that trend now. If that is really the case then I find it quite disappointing as I consider adjustable tension to be a very valuable feature.
If anyone is interested, the current fine tooth models with screwdriver-type hard handles are THNFD72 for 1/4" and FHNFD100 for 3/8". The D designates the hard handle.

I recently picked up a THNF72 for an experiment with my TM738 ratchet and after playing with them I was able to swap the 72 tooth head for the 39 tooth head in the TM738.
Direct fit, though the 72 tooth head may be a 64th larger dia., not sure though, just seems that way for some reason.
This doesn't really accomplish much I guess other then making a new fine tooth ratchet average and an NLA ratchet 33 times nicer then it was before.

nice! The 1/4 version like you have is extremely hard to find, I searched for months before settling for the comfort grip versions. The standard handle 3/8 version is all over Ebay.
Does your FHNF100 have the hex socket screw holding the forks together for easy tension adjustment or disassembly? The one post above made me worried that you might get one that didn't, if they really did change that.

I have a chrome handle other-brand 1/4 roto.
And I have a TH737 (comfort grip 39 tooth) roto.
I'd take the comfort grip every time over the chrome handle. At least in 1/4.
In 3/8", I'm happy with knurled SK goodness.

Never having owned a Snap On ratchet with a plastic/comfort handle,I wonder what whould happen if you just cut the plastic handle off?Does the handle underneath follow the same contour?and is it chromed underneath?

Seen some SO 1/4" but go for high price and usually are not in great shape.
I just settled for the Kobalt (Lowes) 1/4" & 1/2" roto models, they seem to be ok.
I took the Kobalt 1/4" apart to check it out (next to the SO in the pic).....

While I do agree with you that the durability and longevity of the all chrome handle is truly "lifetime" my hands disagree with you when it comes to holding them. I also like a splash of color. I always have 2 extra grips for each of my sizes and if Snap On changes them, I will order more. I do have a couple ratchets that are not comfort grip and they get used for really messy stuff.

Since I Don't think Snap-on makes a 1/2" drive & since a good condition 1/4" is hard to find, I just went ahead and bought the Kobalt versions. The 3/8" is Snap-on. At a quick glance it might look like a complete matching set.

I hate comfort grips in general, but I actually feel they have their place on the roto-ratchets. All of my 15+ Dual 80's are chrome handles.

Good detective work there. I think I'll be a player on a 1/4" and a 3/8" drive chrome handle pair. I'm currently running the rubber ***** handles that come on my Snap On Rotos because no other choice.
Wow, I'm really surprised and happy to see that they're bringing back the all-metal versions, even if it might mean my older TM738 is less special. Maybe I'll just keep an eye out for a good deal on a new TNF72 rather than put a 72 tooth head on my old TM738, and just keep my good old TM738 all original.

Damn right after I bought two new comfort grip versions, I wonder if my dealer would trade them in for a credit towards the all metal ones. I am like you Haupot, I like the all metal for longevity and couldn't find a nice 1/4 one or a reasonably priced 3/8 version when I was on the hunt so I settled for the comfort grip.

I think I'll sell a few of my older ratchets and treat myself to a new TNF72 now that they're available on the online store. I probably would have got an FNF100 also if I didn't happen to score an SK Tuff-1 3/8" roto at a pawn shop. That thing is one of the smoothest ratchet I've ever used.

It set me back a cool $100 bill, and yes they are smooth ratchets. The 72 and 100 tooth heads set them apart. They're a little goofy at first if you've never used Rotos before but once you see the tight areas you can get into and the angles you can get away with you get sold on them. And for the visual crowd.....

Well my dealer came through with a nice shiney new 3/8" drive FNF100 chrome handle roto. Always wanted them to bring them back so here it is! To me this is the perfect Roto. High tooth count, adjustable tension swivel, non comfort grip, long handle. This will become my go to ratchet.

Nice ratchets. I really like the 1/4" and 3/8" Snap-On rotos as well.
While I would've also preferred the all chrome handles (what I have for basically all my other ratchets), I only found comfort grip ones at the time. After having them for several years, I will say that having the grips can be handy at times, allowing you to basically use them as screwdrivers when fasteners are loose.

Love the roto-head ratchets with the hard handles. Just wish they made the 3/8 compact roto-head with a hard handle. Use 3/8 a lot but working on the Harley the compact roto would be VERY handy.

My first Snap On hard handles were yellow. All mine are orange now though. I just picked up one of the FHKFD80 in orange as well as a THLFD72. Next up these roto ratchets if I can get them in orange and a FHLFD80.
