Does this appear to be cadmium plated?

Hey guys, I run across a lot of tools that have this oxidized grey look to them. I'm curious if this appears to be cad? An sk socket that I found attached to a snap on ns-15 breaker bar which looked the same. I already wired wheeled the bar , then I noticed the "G" code meaning wartime. thankfully I was wearing a respirator as I usually do.

It looks cad plated to me. I would clean it very carefully with no wire wheels or wire brushes involved. My favorite method is to spray the tools with brake cleaner.

I'll leave this socket be lol. I already wire wheeled the whole breaker bar . Imm just go wet wipe up the area and hope I survive.

Does anybody know if there is a quick and easy way to tell if a tool is cad plated? Like they have this test for lead in paint - swab a chemical on the paint sample and it turns dark orange or something. Is there anything like that for cad testing?

a quick and easy way to tell if a tool is cad plated?

Here's one method I just learned-

"Because cadmium plating looks almost identical to zinc, visual identification is nearly impossible. The easiest non-destructive test is the paper mark test: rub the clean metal surface firmly against a piece of white paper. If it is cadmium, it is a soft metal and will leave a dark gray or silver streak."


-have not tried it yet though.
